Yup that's why un-cooked pork is one of the most worse meats next to chicken to get food poisoning from. Cooking pork properly like any other meat/s, is fine & safe to eat.

I once bought some cod from an Asda chill cabinet and left it out of the fridge for an hour or two and when I looked it had a lot of long thin worms crawling all over it. Cos Asda was a long drive away I phoned up to complain. The man on the fish counter said that most cod had worms, and they employed women with tweezers to pick out the worms under UV light, but sometimes they would miss a few. Since the cod was chilled most people would cook it and never know. When I was a kid sometimes a battered cod from the fish shop would have some red streaks in it, my mum told me they were veins and I believed it, but the fish man explained how they were worms. So next time you get a cod from the fish and chip shop, look for the "veins", they are really worms.

Oh and I got my money back next time I was in Asda, but I've not eaten cod since. It's just the memory of it that puts me off.

In the days before BSE and antibiotic overuse it was safe to eat raw beef, in fact raw meat in general is better for you than cooked ( dunno about the pork tho ). Anyway does the acid in your gut not kill off the worms?

I really enjoy a rare steak, I've eaten raw lamb, and of course sushi is nice time to time. On the whole people don't eat enough raw food in their diets.

I'm not sure about the stomach acid and if it kills the worms or not, but some worms do/can survive lurking about inside of people though.

As for rare steaks thats a bit diff then raw chicken or mince because steak is a muscle which is pure tissue.

When you seal the outer surface areas, the bacterial growth is minimised (I say this instead of gone because there is always trace amounts of bacteria in all our food) and as the tissue mass inside the steak is pure it's safe to eat. hence why you can eat rare and blue steaks and not get sick.

The thing with minced meat is unless it's fresh and eaten raw in wacky French diches, it has too many surface areas & if not cooked properly all the way through, you can get sick. Esp from dodgy hamburgers.

Raw Pork & Chicken have to be cooked 100% all the way through or you'll get gastro/food poisoning. It can't be underdone like lamb & beef.

Forgot to add sushi can be eaten raw as it's 98% of the time using fresh off the boat fish and seafood. Eating sushi that's not made fresh or been sitting about for a while on the counter is asking for the shits. :)

I can go one better.

My mate used to work for QVC and has in his possession a offair tape of someone demonstrating a frying pan. They were cooking cod.

Lots of worms started coming out the cod as it was being cooked and the presenter clocked it and was trying to sort of hit them with the spatula. It is fucking hilarious.

He should put it on YouTube.
