View Full Version : Puzzle #14
It was Monday morning when Old Bill, the aging local police officer responded to a call from a local garage where a tragic accident had just occurred.
One of the owners of the garage, Cam Shafter, had been crushed while working on a car.
Apparently, the idling car, a snotty green covette, went into gear and crushed him.
The dead mans partner, Butch Fanney, was the only witness to the accident. Scattered about the scene were tools, oil rags, editions of Fiesta and Escort magazine and a puddle of dirty oil.
"I had just finished my coffee and was checking out the stock listings in the morning newspaper when I heard a scream and a loud crash," explained Butch Fanney.
"I ran out of the service area and found Cam pinned to the wall. I jumped in the car and backed it up, but I was too late. He was already dead"
Old Bill looked at Butch Fanney and said, "From what I have seen, that story is a lie!!!!!"
Why??

No, not going to get this.
I would have thought that the sound of the car hitting him would be a thud rather than a crash.
Just want to thank you Craig for keeping DVTimes out of mischeif :)

Butch Fanney did not like coffee?
Butch Fanney could not read, and so it was a lie?
Butch Fanney did not have shares?
Butch Fanney could not have heard the crash from where he says he did.

The poliman did not see a nespaper only Fiesta and Escort magazines.
The Fiesta and Escort magazines meant that they took the breaks in the garage, so he was not having a break in any other part of the building.

If he was not in the same room, how could he say what happened?
stock listings are not in moring papers?
I think I have left this puzzle too open for answers. :(
This is the nearest you got.
Stock exchange is closed at weekends, and the incident happened on monday, so he couldnt have technically read stock listings in a monday morning paper thus invalidating his alibi.
so as much as it grieves me. :gold:

!!
I think thats the point. It did not jump, the chap was killed by his partner.
By the way, it can jump if the gear box is warn.

I just think them up really to tie in with a puzzle question.
Then reuse the ones I like for later puzzles.
Though I have to admit the snotty green corvette was DVT's idea from a recent post.
I would love to use some of the people's names on here in the puzzles but think they would crucify me
