I am not sure what your duties etc are for importing cameras, but this is such an amazing deal, I am sure even with import stuff and shipping it might still be a big bargain. I shoot with Canon, so I don't personally have experience with this Nikon, but my friend who introduced me to this link loves his and he is an old Nikon guy....
Its especially good if you have Nikon glass already

That's pretty cheap for the D200! Event with import duty it is probably cheaper than buying online in the UK (or even a dodgy HongKong no-VAT-eBayer), although with these guys you wont get a UK warranty.

I've been thinking of getting one for a while, but they are so expensive in the UK - why is it that what things in the US cost in $ in the UK cost in £?

Bigger market, more competition?
The cost of living in Canada is much less than the UK. Slightly higher than the US, but not much. Competition, especially the internet, has helped bring a lot of prices into line. When you can order a camera like that, add a few quid for duty and shipping and still get it for less than half price, retailers have to sit up and take notice. Its kind of the same with cars but that right had drive requirement kind of keeps your prices high.
The net is a great leveller.

I really want the Canon EOS 1D mark II but I think will have to wait as I don't have a good enough reason for getting one hehe.

That is the camera I shoot with. Its a great choice. It is robust, blindingly fast, and tough as nails. Incredible battery life and uber reliable. It is a good high production camera.
I don't know how it works in the UK, but here Canon has a service called Canon Professional and the discounts are amazing. I think I got 1200 bucks off my camera and about 600 bucks off my lens. You have to prove to them you take pictures for a living, but if you can do that, you will save a ton.

Will have to have a look and see if they do that sort of thing here, I'm not 100% sure. At the moment I have the 300d which works, but it will never ever be the 1D :)

No sadly, we decided on the Fuji S9600 instead. Works a treat, took some shots of the wee one tonight, the camera whore that she is, and they came out rather nice!!

Can't wait till we start shooting content - think the end of the week actually... :)

The Fuji S9600 got a great review in the mags.
I'd love one of them!

Yeah I'd read a good few things about it as well as the 400d. We figured for now the fuji would suit our needs just fine, no point spending more than we really really need to Besides, if I had a very nice cam like the 400d or better I'd want a nice lens to go with it too...

Its the glass that kills the budget. But it does outlast the camera.

Yeah that's it - they are just as expensive if not much more so to get a decent lens...That's what really put us off. So it's an investment for the future, later on, when we find out if this is going to take of and be worth investment in some really, really good equiptment, although the camera and vid cam we have just now should do us fine for many months to come!

That's the problem.
I went out and bought an extra lens (which I couldn't really afford) as the reviews said the kit lens was pants.

On close inspection, I must say that any photo's taken with the kit lens are a bit soft.

The main problem is that I spent almost a couple of grand building up an Olympus E20 D-SLR system a few years ago and it'll probably cost me that again in the long run on my Canon system.

Also at least with the Fuji you haven't got to worry about getting dust on the sensor! :)

Kind regards.

Go for the l series lenses for Canon. Don't bother with anything else. You won't be sorry. There are quite a few for sale on e bay. I use the 24 to 72mm f2.8 and am thrilled with it. lightning fast, silent focus and crisp bright images. And the 2.8 all the way down is perfect. I have a need for speed.
