Every year february is my quietest month in terms of sales. Every year and this year its definatly started slower.

Traffic way up (as someone will find out soon) But sales always down.

Is it just me?

Nope, been quiet for me. We had this discussion this time last year, lol. Was expecting it to be the same again. However it's not over yet.

Last week was our worst since opening the site in September and this week looks likely to be the same.

We have an ad in the Daily Sport (Nicki made her name in that rag 10 years ago and used to write a column for it) running for 6 days and yesterday it generated less than 60 hits to the site!

I don't want to say (cannot face up to that amount going down the drain) no, really, Nicki was given a special rate because of her past association. If Tony Livesey had still been there we may have got it even cheaper.

Febuary looking good here so far. January was not exactly thrilling.

Our slump seemed to coincide with the introduction of multi currency on the sign up forms. We are considering opting out of this but will hold off for a couple of weeks and make our decision then.

I once looked into buying traffic from English print media and it was amazingly expensive. I opted for a few American mags and got considerably more bang for the buck with much wider distribution. In Britain as well. Worth every penny.

Stocking publications?

I would hold off, february has been down every year for me without exception

Yes, we have now lived and learned that lesson. The only reason we considered it was that a high proportion of our existing members were fans of Nicki from her Daily Sport days and thought we would try and capitalise on it. We would not have placed the ad at their regular rate but the discount tempted us.

A UK men's mag wants to do a two page feature on her with our url right accross the bottom of both pages, won't cost us a penny this time and hoping for a better response.

I tried the sport for advertising when I was at Playboy. Appaling response. in fact, I found out that no print advertising actually worked at all in terms of ROI.

I did however, find that loose inserts of postcards with a hot pic on one side and an offer on the other side worked surprisingly well in the likes of Zoo, Nuts, Max Power, FHM, Maxim, Loaded, Front etc.

Interesting to see how that works out. The top shelf mags did nothing really for Playboy. Lads mags worked well though in terms of PR.

Thanks for the tip Damian but I doubt we will venture into paid print advertising again. Postcard inserts would be too expensive for us I think.

Good luck with the job hunting.

Also noticed that as well, sales have definately gone down slightly sinced it was introduced. Paysite wasn't around last February so i cant compare it against anything, after the responses on here I may wait til next month to see if it picks up before deciding about opting out.

leg, stocking, lingerie, age related publications. Well worth it. But to make it truly effective you should also be selling product like dvd's. Having an 800 toll free number and a regular telephone number to take orders is useful as well. A lot of the guys that read magazines are not on computers or just don't want to join over the internet and feel safer ordering by mail (a lot of cash business) for discretion. So you pick up a large customer base that is unavailable to you on the net.

When you get a minute, can you pm me some links, just the stocking mags and anything you can tell me to make sure I get a decent deal?

February is usually the slowest month but apart from the 2nd this one's looking good, yesterday was excellent.

I tried the Sport years ago with poor results. I've also had full pages in Escort last year that didn't do much but they were free so can't complain, just glad I didn't pay for it.

Same here. Was expecting January to be bad but the first three weeks were excellent and I think that is why the last two weeks' slowness has seemed so dramatic.

I'm seeing a lot of subscribers using the different currency options so I think it's been a positive change. It's just the timing coinciding with a slowdown makes everyone look for reasons why.

But the unknown is whether those signing up now with different currency would have still joined up in dollars without the option.

If your site is new, I would not be too concerned. there are a number of reasons for slow sales. Time of year. Internet worms. Slow lines. I have experienced them all. You have a good product (and nice buttons) so I don't think it should be a cause for real concern.

cheers Refund
the buttons thing is well and truly forgotten now, and, you are an asset to this board

you have very nice stockings :gaylords:

I think it's more likely people will sign up when offered the choice in their own currency. They know exactly what it's costing whereas a lot of people have no idea what the dollar conversion rate is.
If they'd have signed up anyway you've lost nothing but it certainly won't put people off.

see, I'm spreading the love around here.

Am I the only one who noticed that this board going a bit weirdy coincided with the full moon? I only noticed because of uncharacteristic changes in people around me too, family members, friends etc.

Personally, I think you guys are jumping the gun. It is too early in the month to blame February. Wait until its over and then assess the damage. I learned years ago to never judge a month by its first week. People are still in rent and mortgage shock. Be patient.

But I'm not blaming Feb at all mate. It's so far been a wonderfull sales and traffic month for me, on par with the same 1-7 days of Jan.

Dec 06 was massively larger for me, both sales and traffic but I contribute that to Christmas & Boxing day which only happen once a year. :crown:

When the Sunday Sport first launched back in the 80s and we were in the VHS business we used to get about 90% of all new business through there but you really need to look at your target audience and are you sure that Sport readers are really the group that you should be looking to appeal to?

So far this month I'm up 22% on average sales. CCBill is doing well. In the first three days of this payweek I've made as much as the whole of last week.

Absolutly.. We have had only a few days of February, therefore February could be an outragous month for top sales..
The sun normally makes people horny, so were not doing to bad at the moment.
