I have noticed that a small amount of affiliates who are joining my CCBill programme are obviously fake (nonexistant websites, daft names ect...)

I did think about deleting them from the programme but then i though whats the point, some may actually be real and its proberbly more work than its worth (especially with that dreadful CCBill Client back end).

What do you do with (possibly) fake affiliate sign ups?

At the moment I have the webmasters area open and I think it's time to change it.

But yes I think a lot of them are fake and the reasons are obvious.

If you can't see it PM me.

some are surfers signing up to get free content etc. But some are definatly automated. I cant work out why, but automated (bots) for sure

I had this a few months back..

lots of new affilites signed up ...funnily all female and the sales they sent were all female members too... I guess all the stolen credit cards came from handbags

only a small % chargedback though.. i guess only a few people bothered to complain..

Sometimes when you sign up for new message board the owner/webmaster often sends a load of fake affiliate joins to make it look like its worth while posting there.

i cannot believe that owners of webmaster boards would do such a thing ??? :) :)

If they have time to sign up and post under a load of fake nicks then a few fake affiliate joins is nothing. :)

No i dont think so but he is a brand new newbie, I have sponken to him before, he was asking me how to open a ccbill affiliate account, he had been trying from the actual ccbill site. i didnt think he would sign up with me though because i wasnt pushing my site.

although i have had other strange affiliate sign ups, such as the same person registering a couple of days apart and what appears to be some kind of bot

I just check the url given in the aff sign up. No site, no content. If the site doesn't match our profile, again no content. Having said that, in the early days before I wised up a bit, I accpeted every one and amazingly we get sign ups from some of the strangest sites (and no CB's).

Tough call though

You will get the same webmaster signing up a few times so that he can have different affiliate id's for tracking. I know I do.

Yeah but when I say strange I mean very strange LMAO! Like not just a different site but one that has content/positioning that is nothing like ours! Like say www.drunk-whores.com. Now the wife likes a bit of a tipple but I think that's taking it a bit far LOL!!

Most likely the existing ccbill master account brings up the url he/she used way back when, and they can't be arsed to type in whichever domain of theirs is nearest to whichever site they are checking out.

yeah, i do that. which means a lot of the sites i have joined to promote, my registered website is a .cjb.net that no longer exists!

Maybe fake affiliates are people trying to make a few quid by passing the link about and see if they can make some money.. but of course when it comes to the name they dont want to use there real name..
So far we havnt had this problem, so i cannot really say.. just an idea.
Also of course it could be the bored surfer like someone has said a cpl of threads back.. something about trying to get free porn!

how does that work, passing the link, do you mean by referring other webmasters? also if you use a false name, surely your cheque will arrive in a false name?
