Just out of interest. How many of you found the SCam by being directly contacted by the butcher to come and post there?
How do you account for how he got your contact details to do so?
And out of respect for poor daveydude's heart everytime he sees SC and scam in the same sentence I'm going to start calling it SCam :D

The first time I saw it was when he was spamming it all over gg and was saying he had 8,000 members. Before it was shown they all had the same birthday and he said someone hacked in and added them all.
I then got asked on ICQ by the butcher to post, but ignored his ICQ.

First I heard of it was a B&B thread a while back, so I went over for a Butchers but never signed up.
Am gutted I was never asked to join when everyone else was :(

Have you ever posted your icq publically or had it easily accessable for people to contact you?
He needs the ICQ first. He's not psychic as far as I can tell lol

Mine was through Greenies board, then asking a few questions. He has never contacted me but I have only had ICQ active for about two months.
I don't think I had heard of it until it was mentioned on here.

Why on earth would I want to do that - I'd probably get spammed and scammed by spammers and scammers :)
i think i first heard of it one a thread in ******* talking about all the fake nicks.
(has that site had a facelift, unless i'm thinking of a different site?)

He PM'd me, I looked at the forum for about a week then fucked off.

yes him and his gang have in the past used my pm system. But since we made it so someone has to make posts before they can pm its stopped.
His prefered method is just to get peoples icq's

Or just fake the member accounts,
by all account I have one there under the email addy

Just want to add an ICQ I got from SC after advising them some one was pretending to be me -
I mean its childish grown men arguing over a silly nick, I'm deleting the 4 posts, give me 5 mins the nick smithsmedia will be available, lets just start fresh and make deals happen

Butcher added me to ICQ i didnt know who he was but he started telling me about the forum, i posted to say hi and thats it for months, then another webmaster said theyd found this board so i remembered i signed up so i went had a browse and saw most of the people were idiots so left. Havnt been back since.

Same thing happened here. I used to post there last year, but started dwindling down. People are bumping my posts though lol.

Thats the way he tries to get real people posting. getting fake nics to bump old threads then message the people involved to get them to post.
If he wasnt doing it to scam money from sponsors it would be quite funny

Problem is he's been caught to many times. At some point he has to try and get real posters to talk to the 5 or so he has. So he sits like a vulcher on real forums ICQing everyone who's new who joins. He believes the only way of running any site or forum is lying and cheating and trying underhand tactics.
It doesnt just apply to his forum. He started a shitty top list and offered to pay people to send traffic. But like always lied and cheated and never paid the people sending. Awhen they posted it on his forum, he just bans them.

He does.. but I think that's more a desperation thing when it's someone he really wants. :D

Haha I see your point. For me trillian filters out all the typical icq spam. The unsolicited add requests/messages from reps and the like are less than a handful a year. So the legitimate add requests from other people looking for trades or help or other business questions far outweigh the 3 or 4 unsolicited crap from the likes of butcher or LC or crappy program reps trying to get me to promote their installs or shit.

you wanna tell me what i have known..
What i have NOT done is any research on the other board or the guy in question.. I have a lot of other things to do in a day.. all i have read is what people were saying here.. i thought it unfair at the time .
I have said it before. I actually spoke to someone very, very highly regarded here ( I will NOT name names) BEFORE we posted heavily and paid for some ads on SC. I was NOT made aware at that time of any problems
With hindsight there is a lot of things i would have done very differently with regards to our webmastering skills..
We are producers who were told that a site we produced content for might be succesfull. we are VERY good at what we do in that respect ...
webmastering is NOT our game...
if i could find a good webmaster i would be out of here in a flash

SC was exposed in 2004.
I was the person who obtained the "hidden list" of fake members on the SC vBulletin system and passed this list on to Jim of GG&Jim who at that time was working to expose SC. At no point did I "hack" his admin. I simply knew where to look, and so did Googlebot the info I provided was backed up in Google's cache.
I was banned and then falsely blamed (and you can listen to the real telephone conversation on GG&Jim's Radio archives) by the butcher for grassing him to Paypal for doing adult transactions when he was paying his members to post. It's easy to make scapegoats of the people who have exposed a scam.
What annoys me is that people who are aware of the facts, cannot see how they taint their own reputation by the company they keep and the boards they support.
Id never come across it until this recent debate, having taken a glance at a few things there to try and put my finger on the "scam", it appears a little odd in comparison to other forums and the first thing i noticed was someone
happily named the butcher giving his thoughts on a certain owner of a certain forum with bollocks in the name . I dont know the history but i know theres always some Hyena wants a piece of somthing you got. I think JT is right to want to protect his Biz but in the heat of the moment went a little Chinese
with his censorship. "Thought Police" is never the right way to go . Im sure JT
must know this along with other ways of combatting pests in Bizness. Some
good responses to the crazyness tho i must say. HHAA
