how come some phone boxes were black and others red.
these were the old style boxes.
i noticed this walking around london before the meet up.
Cos someone other than BT has a phone in them.
Phone boxes in London are now sponsored by certain establishments looking to promote girls. I believe part of the deal is you get a choice of 2 colours. I think the red boxes show off the tart cards better, but the black colour is "in" this year.

sure your not confusing them with the old style "police boxes2 (they look like the tardis) that are scattered around london? Well I know they have one in earls court area when I stayed there for my three U2 gigs in one week! hehe

But why?!
2nd post in the thread has the answer!
Note: if you're have to ring 999 run to a red one, as although most of the black ones do provide emergency services they don't have to. BT ones do by law.

Really? I just assumed that being able to dial 999 from public phone boxes was a requirement by law?

It gets quite confusing.
Ofcom will only enforce some of it's regulations if the company is a dominant player (i.e BT). I believe that all of these alternate payphone do provide 999 service but if they didn't Ofcom can only tell them off. If it was BT they get a massive fine.
This came up recently when some VOIP providers didn't provide 999 services, but BTs VOIP service has to or they will be fined.
