I just noticed the pound has passed $1.99 and is still rising.
Looks like the 2 dollar pound is on the cards.

It will be interesting to see if it really does.
I remember us all posting here about this expecting it to happen any minute about 5 weeks ago, and it didn't.
I remember that it came within a gnat's whisker of getting to 2:1 around 1990 and it didn't then either.
Perhaps the Fed steps in when it starts getting close and manipulates things so it doesn't cross such a psychological barrier, although I don't think the GBP is that important that it's such a big deal for them.
At least it might knock Jade bloody Goody off down the news agenda. I can't believe Sky News is still devoting 10 minutes an hour to this.
lets all pray for this:

We just need to find a way to import shit loads of ipods, PS3's and Wii's now and sell them on ebay. When I was in New York last year everything was the same in dollars as pounds so now your looking at half price.

If I thought we could get them in without customs getting their grubby hands on them I would give you my address now...
Must admit, I have got an American PO Box number which they have done as a suite # and I buy most of my bits from Amazon.com and have them sent via the USA address. They can put the RRP price on the customs slip or the maunfacturing price which is obviously much cheaper. Managed to get the latest Dewalt drill before Christmas, cost me £70 including postage, just need to use it now :)

It hit 1.9916 and fell back. My graph shows it pipping $2 in 1992 then falling back. Watching the news, I didn't see it as a headline, maybe if it pushes thru $2 again they'll pick it up.

I think that, when it starts to really nudge $2, the UK based currency brokers think that the USD is just too much of a bargain to ignore and so start selling sterling to buy it up, which always keeps pushing it back down again.
However, if it actually does fall below the $2 mark because of other factors, then it could drop like a stone from there.
A couple of years ago, for oil, $50 a barrel was the great psychological barrier. Once that was broken, there was no stopping it.
My ccbill wire was exchanged at 2,0055 yesterday. Whatever that means.

The media always quotes a mid-rate. In practice, you will get a slightly better or worse rate depending on whether you are buying or selling a currency.
After all, the banks need to take yet another pound of flesh from the process.
That was according to the letter I got from the bank informing me of the wire :)

It now means that you get less than 50pence for your $1 :(
