These days films are now the backbone of most sites.
Having your films stolen is simply devestating, as if people get them free that simply means a loss of sales, plus it encourages others to steal and re-post them.
So what are good sugestions these days to protect your films?
watermark them. Then at least when they are all over the net, you get some advertising
always have a watermark url on the film, you aren't going to stop people from stealing but by having your url on the film it at least a bit of advertising.

Watermark them and DCMA the living fuck out of any site that you don't want to use them and don't lose any sleep over the sites that are really just adding to promo and branding. Learn from television.

The Keeley pirates who really fucked me off were Monkey Mag, which is part of a major publishing group. They not only pirated and gave the video away free to promote the mag, but when I phoned them they took it down, then put it back up again, and then even sent a newsletter saying:
And, even though some heavy-weight lawyers with degrees and stuff tried to not let you see the Keeley Video... Well, for God's sake, you're only human! Go to page 45 and have a peekeroonie!
As a large UK business, they can't do a runner, so needless to say some "heavy-weight lawyers with degrees and stuff" will soon be knocking on their door.

i guess they probably think that the increase in sales and publicity will cover the legal costs.

I am just thinking is there any way to stop people saving films. I have downloaded wmv files before and found they would not save.

Is drm worth setting up too?
We use DRM, but it doesn't stop people recording the movie from the video out port. I'm told future DRM will prevent people from doing this.

Members hate it

DRM and streaming onle are the best ways to get people to cancel straight away and both are very easy to save anyway.
Give your members what they want *how* they want it + make it easy for them = $$$

I thought you may not be doing this now.

I have always liked streaming video and have it on my sites along with the file to download (for those who want) I always think it gives a site a proffesional TV like feel

I was speaking from a subscription site point of view. The most mail we get from customers before they join is do we have DRM or are our videos streaming only.
From a VOD site point of view it would be no problem at all.

Before a geek works out a way round it 3 minutes after the encryption is released...
