I need to buy a new laptop asap as my other one's just past away. Looking for something dirt cheap like sub £500... anyone seen any good deals online or offline that are worth a look.
Just need something for web access and email really in the house.
Ta :)

Get a dell.
You can get them that price and they have more chance of lasting.
I see a lot of old cheap dell laptops working.
There are other firms but they may not last long.

If you know what you are looking for go on Ebay and look for the Dell Outlet. They sell laptops and desktops as grade A because they are supposedly "scratched". When you actually get it you will be hard pressed to find the scratch. Save yourself around 25% - 30%.

Id say get a dell too, i knew someone who had theres for years and was a fairly cheap laptop to start with.
I was in Tesco the other day, they had Lap Tops @ £349.95 (Might have even been cheaper?)
I've no idea what they're like but might be worth a look. :)

Dell in the past had some bugs that i did not like.
These were they used Dell compnents which were very expensive to add on.
Such as Dell momeory, or Dell power leads. These were Dell fittings.
This may now have changed.
But Dell seem very robust.
You can get cheaper, but it could be false ecomomy as they may not last as long or look and feel as good.
Plus I presume your firm is vat registered so you can get the vat back.
But think on, often the computer sudenly gets expensive with add ons. Ie i would opt for 1 gig of memory and a dvd writer.

wow, our prices are in US dollars but they're the same as yours in Pounds... guys, you're overpaying! I could get you one and still pay 2 way ticket to UK to deliver :)
If its just emails and web access you want... have a look at something like this from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-THINKPAD-X23-PENTIUM-3-1-0GHz-512MB-20GIG-CD-RW_W0QQitemZ180074298366QQihZ008QQcategoryZ177QQss PageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I got a IBM X21 last year from ebay and for surfing/email its great..... Battery life around 4-5 hrs, very small, very well built.. mine has been ultra reliable and i use it in the house for surfing etc.....
This 1 is £250 quid, but you can get them a lot cheaper...

Cheers for all the replies... after much deliberation I've opted for a Dell @ £538 incl vat & delivery which I didn't think was too bad. Should get it in 3 - 4 days :)

Cheap laptops personally i would go with Acer. Dell ones i have never had much luck with (one HD failure and a blown battery)
