What a fucking deal!!!
They were saying this was going to happen months ago when the pair were looking around properties. He denied it, even this morning on the news Beckham said he has had offers from the USA, France, England and Spain and he was staying in Spain. He really has played his last ever match for England now, this has to be about him securing life after Football...
What a fucking deal!!!
What deal?
Whatever it is he should jump on it cos he has had his day.
Fucking 'ell that's a nice bit of dough. Good luck to him.
Is it a fucking secret????

250 million dollars - 5 year contract - Fuck sake, even if he was still good enough for England, it's worth giving that up for this deal

Thats a bit of wedge, it would take me at least 10 years to make that.
He should just retire before he ends up a joke, which is what he is really for going to the states. Still I suppse he needs a few bob.
Is it a fucking secret????
Look it up you lazy bastard :D

they should pay me £250 million fucking dollars and id learn how to kick a fucking ball lol..
That deal sums Beckham up perfectly. Couldn't give a shit about anything but money and hasn't done for the last five plus years, which was around about his last decent performance in an England shirt.

It's too bad it was for the galaxy, I hate those fucks.
Though, it is going to do great things towards getting more spectators to US soccer, which will get more money in the leagues, more talent getting discovered, and overall just more money all around worldwide, as this is pretty much the last untapped market for football.

Exactly - A good businessman sets himself up for life.
A great businessman sets himself up and his kids for their lives.
Beckham is in the position to set his granchildrens' grandchildren up for life.
On top of his contract, just think about usa booksales, advertising etc - 250 million dollars will turn out to be a raindrop in the ocean.

I think thats a bit harsh, this guy and others have like a 12 year carear at best they have to milk it for all its worth.
It terms of his effort his 'heart' on the field is ONLY matched by a player you will know all to well, Alan Smith - from all the England boys.
Hes no star player he just has exceptional vision and passing ability I would say he is one of if not the best in world at hitting a pass cross field.
He is still better then Gerrad & Lampard in terms of playing for England no question about that in my mind.
I think is amazing this guy has become such a role model for people around the world it is and I am sure you will agree Garv a MASSIVE credit to us all and we need to thank Manchester United for educating the guy.
If Manchester United can harness the same from Alan Smith then it will be two 'global' superstars they have made - all good for our game :)

I agree - My first year as an apprentice footballer was worth 5 quid a week (4 pounds 8 and 7 after deductions). My first "contract" was 150 (not too bad for a 19 year old when the average wage was only 25 - We didn't have agents in those days and to get a rise, I had to accept a transfer - a good agent would have got me much more cash - I still ended up on a grand a week by 20 and eventually left football with a huge cheque because of injury.
Many went the same way as me - Most are totally destitute now - Even those that had good careers still didn't make enough cash to see them through to old age - No training was ever given to life after football (average age of an ex-pro footballer is still below 30).
Most footballers were so uneducated as what to do with their cash and spare time, spent their afternoons either in bookies, playing golf for high stakes, or in snooker halls pissing it up and wasting cash on betting. A mate of mine, Brian O'niel who had a great career with Southampton, left the full time pro game and couldn't even afford to buy football boots when he signed for a non league club -
Pro's today do have it better, because clubs have learnt that education is a must - Beckham has benefited from that - But, he has been a great advert for football and he could also do things with a ball other players could only dream of - He used his cash well and married well - And has the right people in place to make sure he makes the right decisions.
Why would anyone have anything bad to say against a guy that scored an incredible goal in the dying seconds against a decent Greek side to send England into the final stages of a tournament?
Why would anyone have anything bad to say against a guy who has proved time and again that when it comes to putting a ball into the box at pace, dipping, and damn fucking accurate?
Why would anyone have anything bad to say against Beckham? Pure jealousy - Simple as that -
He has made his bed in the most professional way possible - Best of luck to him - Yes, there were far better players - But this guy has a touch of genius he carried over from the football field into all other areas of his life.

Robbie Earl said he'd go to the US last night.
I was thinking earlier that Posh wouldn't want to go to Texas.. and he's already set up a soccer academy in LA so it makes perfect sense :)

I figured it was inevitable, though they tried to keep it as a surprise.
Fox soccer channel has been running these beckam ads where he shows footage of the soccer academy, and talks about how one day he'd love to play in the US because it is a market on the verge of expanding.
I did figure he would have landed at the Red bulls though, the way they are trying to throw money away, though I think they still have their eyes on ronaldo.
Do I sense a fellow Leeds United supporter here? I thought we were all in hiding after the shambles and past 3 years

Some good points there Cardinal.
Your right, football used to favour the clubs totally. They paid players a decent wage but the huge profits were kept for the fat cats at the top. Most footballers left the game ill prepared for the world that awaited them off the pitch and ended up with very little to show for it.
Something need to change and it did, the agents came in, club loyalty was abandoned and the Bosman ruling was passed. The huge profits have now transfered from the chairman and board to the fat cat footballers of today. This new breed of player is given a decent class of education, all the help they need financially and the top players can play for 4-5 years and make enough money to last them a lifetime. These players still have enough spare time to play golf with mates, spend whole afternoons at the bookies and get wasted in snooker halls but, unlike their predecessors, they are so financially sound they can afford to do it.
Sorry Cardinal but a lot of todays footballers are still doing the same as what the people of your day were doing. Only difference is players of your generation had some respect, a lot of the present lot wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. They have now been reclassified to a higher level and are more than happy to assume the airs, graces and attitudes that only the top celebs once enjoyed.
As for Beckham, your correct he has done well with his money and also married well, or she did anyway. On the pitch he has been a great player for club *spit* and country over the years. Great passer of the ball and 100% player. The 2002 Greece qualifier was the pinacle of his international career, where he single handedly dragged England into the World Cup finals, but it has been a slow decline from there. I think the willingness has always been there but the desire has been slowly ebbing away. Todays announcement seems to state that he's turning his back on competitive football all together in order to pick up a very nice pay deal and possibly pick up a whole new media audience and market in the states. I'm sure Victoria's chances of possibly resurrecting her singing career in the US had very little to do with anything.
Got a few bad words to say about Beckham but there is no jealousy towards him.
He was/is a good player who's made a good life for himself and his family out of mugs like myself who go week in week out to watch matches and help line the pockets of those who get so much for so little.
Do I sense a fellow Leeds United supporter here? I thought we were all in hiding after the shambles and past 3 years
Nah never be ashamed mate, times like these make you appreciate the good days even more. Will be even worse if we drop out of this league though, Blackpool here we come! LOL
As your from East Midlands you going on Saturday to St. Andrews, if it goes ahead? Can meet you for a beer or two at half time if you like.

We were really in the same boat - In our day, were were well off financially and yes, we probably behaved the same - I know I was a bit of a poseur as much as most of the others -
Footballers then as now, have a lot of free time and as in our day, find it easier to mix with each other - Then the cards come out!
However, cash today they make isn't a comparison to our day - Some, made good their money - Derek Doogan did, Frances Lee did. Can't think of many more that "made" it really big -
Changes needed to be made and they were - and yes, they favour the footballer rather than the sponsor - But, show me a poor sponsor/chairman...
I do not begrudge the cash players make today - They earn more and, they are also better players, menatally and physically - To get to the top today takes a hell of a commitment - Had I been born 30 years later, I do not think I would have made the grade. Players of today, will be writing very much the same as me in 30 years time - They will be talking of the same teams, the same sport - But it will be a different game...
Like it was for me opposed to my fathers generation and for me opposed to today's generation.

I loved every minute in LA!!!
Dunno about the whole of the US but in LA there is a large latino population who are really into soccer. I think the Galaxy or Chivas won the cup recently as well. Plus there's no NFL team in LA and the baseball team isn't very popular.... should be good for the sport! Posh will be at home in Beverly Hills spending the $1m every week ;)

Yeah, LA won the season previous to this one. Which was a sham though. They do the MLS here using a format like other U.S. sports, which doesn't really work out.
Like L.A. was a mid tier team at best, then had a couple lucky games in the post season, and managed to win the cup. It was lame, but anyway.
Yeah, they have a proper stadium there, and a half decent rivalry going between chivas and the galaxy (both playing at the same stadium). Should be interesting. I'm sure landon donovans whiny bitch ass isn't going to be too happy about not being their golden boy anymore (except in the showers).

It's probably not known much outside of the U.S. (hell even in the us, lol) but they created a special rule, known as the David Beckam rule. The teams salary cap is suppose to be $2 million, but they allow each team to have one player that no matter what in the hell they pay them, it only counts as 400,000 against the cap, so they could pull in a few more players from outside the area.

I haven't managed to get to them once this season due to commitments, I usually manage around 8 home games a season. My last away game they beat Leicester 5-0 in the CC cup, just before that it was Man U which was an experience, it was a 1-0 defeat.
Will take you up on the offer at a later date though, never know I could be watching them in my home town of Northampton next season :(

You definately haven't missed much this season, the vast majority of matches have been fucking awful. Even the tried and tested method of "get pissed and it looks better" has been failing badly :(
Just let me know when your next off and we'll meet up for a few drinks. Hopefully it wont be Northampton but you never know!
