Republic of Ireland

Is the TV against the Republic of Ireland (southern Ireland)?

I ask this as when they cover the weather they never mention the republic of Ireland. Yes I know that they do not get BBC (although they probably do on Satellite).

But they seem to ignore it. It would only take a second to say it its raining or not.

I mean there are lots of people from Ireland in England who may wish to know, as well as those who may be going on holiday.

Also the news rarely covers events in Ireland, yet almost each day they will cover events in the USA, and often events in other European countries.

After all Ireland is our closest English speaking country.

Also non of the channels ever seem to buy any Irish TV shows. I am sure they must produce some decent TV shows.

So to me, the media snubs the Republic of Ireland.

covering the weather is usually seen as a decent hint you lay claim to the area. especially when done by state owned broadcasters.

the only 2 countries if have personally seen cover weather of neighbour states was Germany with Eastern Germany when they were still split and Austria covering the northern part of Italy which was originally austrian and still has mostly german speaking folks there.
IIRC not even Luxembourg covers weather of its neighbours, although they are so very small.

also, where does it end? with the channel crossing day trippers, do you also cover France and Netherlands?

I guess they dont pay the licence fee and I doubt more people go there than anywhere else in Europe so I dont really see why we need to show the weather there

They don't produce that many decent TV programmes either, at least not ones that would have any particular interest to viewers outside Ireland. Many of those that they do make tend to be co-productions with the BBC, CBC or other broadcasters and end up here anyway.

They make half decent films, but the TV they make is shite. Plus who cares what goes on in the news there. Fuck we dont even show scotish news, and we pay for the BBC

I like BBC too, but when they are forecasting the weather for the North of Ireland, I would have thought it wouldn't have killed them to include the remainder of the island !

Irish tv stations forecast weather for all of the island of Ireland, they don't exclude the North !
