Last year when I was working for Playboy I sent out an advent calender email every day in December to a double opt-in list. You had to really want to be sent the email to get it.

On Christmas day it got 98% open rate and 47% click through rate. And made money.

This is true, but then it is followed by the two worst weeks of the year.

What happens is that people get their credit card bills in just after Christmas and are horrified to find out how much they have spent. So from this time until they get their next salary cheques at the end of January are the tightest times for any kind of retail.

So make the money while you can!

Sales slightly up on Christmas Day, didn't see the surge i've seen in the last couple of years - will be interesting to see how Boxing day does.

Strange day for us, sales about average - but way more 3 month sign ups than usual, and traffic down loads.

Traffic and sales were down about 40% yesterday, back to normal today.

Compared to an average Tuesday, traffic was still down about 40% on Boxing Day, however sales were up 20% :)

The day before Christmas and Boxing day sales were very high, traffic was stable. On the actual Christmas day sales were pretty low for me though.

Day after Boxing Day - biggest day of the year and indeed biggest day ever. The Christmas surge came 2 days late!
