High IQ link to being vegetarian

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6180753.stm

Intelligent children are more likely to become vegetarians later in life, a study says.

-----------

I agree 100%.

Which only goes to show that if the trend continues we'll get more stupid, and regress back to monkeys. Or as is more likely the case, HG Wells style, cattle. Those of us who don't give up meat will become Morlocks and the vegetarians will become the simple childlike Eloi whose are herded like cattle by the Morlocks for food.

Do you know why our brains grew and made us a more intelligent species in the first place? Because we started eating meat.

Herbivores are prey, nothing more.

I'm not that surprised at this. More intelligent people tend to be more thoughtful so leading some to this lifestyle choice isn't that surprising.

Me?? I love a bit of meat. We had a lovely bit of roast lamb Sunday. Mint sauce, roast spuds, veg ......lovely mmmmmmmmmmm!!!

I read a report on this study, but it wasn't clear whether a vegetarian diet increases intelligence, or intelligent people are more likely to become vegetarian. Sloppy journalism...

Anyway, I had a fucking gorgeous 21-day matured steak for dinner last night.

I read something similar a while back and i think its silly and not at all true. I dont really eat red meat only white but my 4 year old is the biggest meat eater i know, he wont eat much else and hes a clever little boy. Some intelligent people in this world are meat eaters and some are vegetarian i dont think it makes a difference.

OK, so let me get this straight.

These high IQ kids BECAME vegitarian.
So these high IQ kids were meat eaters to start out with.
So the meat gave 'em the high IQ.
The ones that were orignially vegitarians didn't have such a high IQ.

Looks like the veggy lobby are so smart they can't even follow a simple chain of logic.

So you are what you eat. Eat a lot of veg and turn into a turnip.

"Men who were vegetarian had an IQ score of 106, compared with 101 for non-vegetarians; while female vegetarians averaged 104, compared with 99 for non-vegetarians."

None of these people aren't geniuses, that's for sure :)

Being veggy is a urban middle class occupation. It's dirven by the "animals are cute" for females. And the "I won't shag you if you eat meat" ( says the GF ) on the male side, I suspect these poor buggers have to sneak out for the odd Big Mac which is why they get a couple extra IQ points over the females.

My own dear sister has recently come off the veggy nonsense and has since seen sense on many other issues. Her politically correct rubbish has gone down the plug hole with the lentil burgers and it is now possible to have a sensible conversation with her.

Aren't geniuses?

Try to make a valid point and screw it up with a typo.

I found the most interesting part of the research to be this"

"Men who were vegetarian had an IQ score of 106, compared with 101 for non-vegetarians; while female vegetarians averaged 104, compared with 99 for non-vegetarians."

So women are always 2% more stupid than men who eat the same stuff as them.

Of course, research shows that 96.3% of all surveys are complete bollocks.

I'm veggie because I don't need meat to live. To me it's hypocritical for a society to illegalise cruelty to animals while at the same time supporting an industry that slaughters them wholesale.

I agree in principal with many of Peter Singer's ideas - the guy is very logical and to me he makes a lot of sense:

In Animal Liberation, Singer argues against what he calls speciesism: discrimination on the grounds that a being belongs to a certain species. He holds the interests of all beings capable of suffering to be worthy of equal consideration, and that giving lesser consideration to beings based on their having wings or fur is no more justified than discrimination based on skin color. In particular, he argues that while animals show lower intelligence than the average human, many severely retarded humans show equally diminished mental capacity, and intelligence therefore does not provide a basis for providing nonhuman animals any less consideration than such retarded humans. He concludes that the use of animals for food is unjustifiable because it creates unnecessary suffering, and considers veganism the most fully justifiable diet. Singer also condemns most vivisection, though he believes animal experiments may be acceptable if the benefit (in terms of improved medical treatment, etc.) outweighs the harm done to the animals used.

Good on you, I must respect principles, to few people have any.

Funny story I saw about ethics once on TV. It goes like this.

They asked a group of students to imagine they had a new sports car worth $20k. The car was then put onto the railway tracks near some points. On the other fork was a group of African children. They were then asked to imagine a speeding train heading down the track and they had control of the lever to decide if the African kids were run over by the train, or their new sports car.

They all said they would save the kids and sacrifice the car.

They were then told that for the price of the car, $20k or so, they could save the lives of several hundred African kids who had aids or some such, and would they like to donate a few hundred dollars or whatever they could afford. There was some feet suffling, and mumbling, but very few
gave anything, and it's for sure that in later life noone would give up the car to save Africans when they had the spending choice.

I think that shows that if we don't see suffering directly, we can ignore it when it comes to moral choices. The nature of the human mind, isn't it?

I know for a fact that being a vegetarian can make lesser chances of acquiring diseases or illness...but for the IQ stuff, i really don't have any idea...

:troll: :troll: :troll:

How do you know this fact?

It what circumstances can it lessen chance of diseases and in what circumstances does it not lessen the chances of sickness?

Not saying you are wrong, I'm just interested in the subject.
