I have recently set up a site that promotes a lot of well known british girls, and quite a few unknowns. I am trying mainly to build up search engine hits over anything else, and so have been doing a lot of promotional site text. I find review sites help to ID what the surfer is really getting and whats inside the members area.

Now up until about 5 mins ago this hadnt really crossed my mind, but trying to build up loyal surfers who will come back to me again and again to find sites I suggest isnt going to happen when you find out that inside these sites members are being dicked around.

I had always been led to believe that this was a decent site that converts well. Well fair enough, it may convert but from the reviews im reading it must not retain too well.

So the question is, on sites like this do you use PPS and get as much cash as you can, or do you avoid the sponsor, or what? Im seriously tempted to avoid the sponsor, but this is a huge site by british girl standards.

Im not going to post exactly which sites I have seen as I believe the question doesn't need the specifics to be valid.

I have a mix of PPS and revshare. Unless you ask for access and the site gives it to you, you aren't gonna get access unless you signup yourself, which I'm reluctant to do for every site I promote (but I know other affiliates do). Read a few reviews and make a decision. If its a really bad site that your surfers will hate but that has a great tour you need to make that decision - as you say, they might not come back.

To answer your question if a site has poor retention and can make me more on PPS (if they are offering that payout option) then I'd take it. That's if it's a good converter but has poor retention, otherwise I'd be loosing money.

Why not ask for a user/pass for a site when you start promoting it so that you can check sites out for yourself?

If you have not looked inside the site and got a feel for the place its pretty much impossible to promote it properly anyway.

Absolutely - Any webmaster with a decent site will be only too pleased to give you a pass - If he has an upsell hell, he'll probably ignore your email!

The sponsor at the site this post was about originally only offers revshare...

Im aware that the net review sites are possibly biased / paid off, BUT i tried to chose sites that had customer reviews as well as staff, as the customers generally tell the whole truth, albeit quite crudely.

Most review site traffic converts better than any other Net traffic excluding membership traffic. There are exceptions.

It's easy to figure out why. If you read a restaurant review saying a steak house has the most juicy, tasty and best cooked steaks in town and on visiting you find it's selling horse meat. Do you go back to the reviewer for another recommendation?

On the Internet a lot of sites have been selling horse meat as Prime Aberdeen Angus for years, we have created a very suspicious clientèle.

So are you looking to send as much one off traffic as you possible can or to get surfers to come back to you for their next site to join?

Review site for us does not retain so well, is it because they are going back to the review site to join another one confident that they are not being sold horse meat?

Where would we all be if we had been selling honestly for the last ten years?

We have a review site in the pipeline, been there for ages, and mostly I found I was agreeing with most of the other reviews sites reviews. Except for one UK site.

The reviews it got were glowing, but for me it totally missed the mark. Yes the site works well, yes it's got a lot of content, yes it puts up a lot of NEW and EXCLUSIVE content all the time. Mainly because they were IMO churning out stuff on a conveyor belt with little real thought or effort.

Wild horses will not drag the name of the site from me.

And it has nothing to do with not understanding the niche. The biggest problem was a lot of the content was shot with a tungsten light and the models were statuesque, bored and when they moved you saw a blur. Plus the videos SUCKED.
