I have those things near me.
Its not a bus lane, its a small back road.
I have only seen them up once. I think its to stop cars going down the hill in the wet, but there are no signs to say what they are for.
I wonder if those people could claim the machester council. I could see somone hurting themselves.

To be honest its getting to the stage your better off not using a car.

There's big signs saying NO ENTRY as well I think - I am going downtown later so will have a look.
Perhaps I should take a camcorder with me :)

There's an idea. I think they are a fairly new thing - although you don't really notice them until a car smashes into them. They were on the local news a few weeks ago.

These would be a great idea on the motorway. Whan someone nicks a car the rozzers can chase em like buggery, then press a button and these bollards pop up. They would also have an automatic camera at the scene to record the action and stick it on a website where Joe Public could buy ringtones or whatever, to raise revenue.

I think they are actually the prototype for Britain's new nuclear missile program - craftily disguised as bollards so the Russians, Chinese and Islamic extremists don't know where they are.
Theres an interview with the council fuckfit who installed them on the bbc website. Apparently these evil doers are a serious problem in Manc and MUST BE STOPPED at all costs. Zero sympathy at all. (But ASBO's for murder are just fine) Sorry, but driving up a bus lane for what ever reason just isn't that high up my list of priorities and I don't think its funny in the slightest to see, yet again, the government making some poor sods life harder and costing him a fortune in the process. They have them in cambridge and loads of old folk miss the signs and get their cars trashed in the process. (assuming stupidly that they can drive into central town, just like they did for the last 50 years)
As for there being signs, so what? the roads in the UK are covered in millions of pointless signs informing me of daft stuff; theres a bend coming or its raining, or even that its foggy. If I can read the sign, it ain't that fucking foggy. The hard bit in the UK is working out which signs actually do require attention and which should be ignored.
Whats so wrong with the horizontal barriers that people can actually see? So what if a pedestrians have to walk around it? If they work AND stop expensive accidents like this then surely everyone goes away happy? Apparently not.
It also said on the news that no one had sucessfully sued a council over these things.

I do not understand why these things do not pop up and take the buses out. Are they on timers or have a senser?
From the film clip, there were some very small signes. I wonder if they are easy to spot.
Also do they work 24 hours or just during the day.
In Leeds its a pain to drive around, and parking (if you can get parked) is £3 per hour. As such people do not use Leeds but drive to the white rose shopping center outside of Leeds.
I can see this hapening to more cities. People will simply not bother and drive to out of town shopping centers.
By the way I like Jeremy Beadle.

Videos of people being injured are very popular, I've never really understood it, but some find it hilarious to see people break a leg or an arm. I'm not quite sure what level of personal injury makes folk cringe, I guess it's a personal thing. I believe the Ken Bigley beheading drove quite a few hits to some sick website or other.

I think a boken leg is different to somone being killed.
with a broken leg you know it will heal up. My nabour said she ejoyed watching me fly of my bike and crush my leg. she said it made her day. I am glad i cheared her up, it made up for the steal bar that was placed in my leg to hold it together.

You are a truly generous individual. If only there were more people like that.

Are those moving bollards still wrecking vehicles lol?
The area of M/C it is in is near M&S/ St Annes sqaure which they have spent a lot of money on doing it up, 3's and 6pence I think.
Any way there are lots of signs saying No Entry etc etc.
The problem round there was the cunts who went shopping would pull up outside Marks's Selfridges etc and load their cars up with shopping, lazy cunts, and create traffic jams, cause ther was a taxi rank there as well.
The buses you see are FREE buses to get you around M/C and where always getting into traffic jams because of the lazy cunts parking where they want.
If you notice about 99% of passersby just walk past and don't give a fuck cause its the drivers fault.
You cant see it on the film but there is a big fuck off turning circle available to drivers who may, by mistake have turned up Lower Market Street, plus the signs,so there is no excuse for them to get caught on the bollards.
BTW it is funny as fuck to watch, I love it.
its good to see that they put a bus stop right in front of a pedestrian walkway as well, also notice how that black people carrier swung around, and pedestrians nearer whould have been hit.
manchester council are a disgrace for allowing those bollards.
my hometown has been bloghted by buslanes that get used by busses and taxes. why the fuck should a company (bus company) have first class privaleges on the public roads?

Its not a bus lane, it is an access road for delivery vehicles etc not for the public to use to load their cars when they have been shopping or as a cut through to Albert Square or Kings Street.
One of the reason it was put was because of the IRA bomb that wrecked the area. The mad micks parked a 7.5 tonne van outside M&S because they could.
After that the city brough in certain restricted areas for vehicles.
80& of M/C is pedestrianised now anyway.
BTW a traffic warden put a ticket on the van that was carrying the bomb.I bet the council didn't send the baliffs to Aramgh Southern Command to collect the debt though.:P
