Tell me what you would do.

I contact a not bad looking model.

She says sure, do the shoot Monday and sends me a mobile and her address. But not in full only the street name!!!!!

So I email her to say I have no address. I phone her several times no answer.

After a bit I go out.

Later she emails me. Says sorry, and how about today.

So I say fine. She says 1.30pm. Fine.

1pm today she texts me. I am in trafic it says can you make it 2.30. Sure I text back.

Get to her house. Car in drive.

I knock no answer. I phone no answer.

Get home, no email from her.

Just had email at 5pm. Sorry it says, I fell asleep. How about a shoot on Wed?

At the moment I cannot be bothered to go back. OK, she is only 10 mins away, so its not like I am going far.

But, I think she is just a waster.

I have a feeling that she is eather doing stripping on a night too, and so fell asleep or she likes a drink.

But then I will be as bad as her. And it will be me who gets a bad name.

I emailed her and said, would she do the shoot at a lower price to make up for wasting my time.

She emailed me back and said, no, same price.

I then emailed her back to ask her if she considered in any way that she was responible for me wasting my time and money and fuel.

I just cannot belive that she simply does not care.

Just so glad she is local.

Not even sure its her house I went to.

The car was in the drive and you have to walk past it to get to the front door.

Plus I did not even look throught the window, you could see her tv on from the street (her net cutins sucked).

Hi there DV, Like you I am a photographer and often have the problem of no-shows etc messing me around.
Its an unfortunate part of the business, however I feel that you have been patient enough in this situation.
Is she really that special that you want to persevere, after all there are many models out there who I dare say would happily take the fee that you are offering.
Sometimes (And I have been in this situation) models that are local to you, tend to feel that you can be at their beck and call, and often feel that as its not causing you much in the way of stress or money, that they can keep messing you around.

Have you thought that she might also be an escort, sometimes I have travelled hundreds of miles to only be ignored at the door like you, because a client suddenly turned up... (Better pay less work)

It can also be uncomfortable for them to work with someone that they might bump into in the street regularly.

After enough good and bad experiences I now work on a two strikes and out principle.
There are lots of models and couple willing to work, and we are running a business after all.

In the "what makes a good site" or the "Paul Markham" threads virtually no one ever mentions the difference to running your business (as a business) of having a local supply of reliable and good looking girls. What usually drives me nuts is that its often the B grade girls who are the least reliable, leaving me wondering why I compromised and booked them in the first place!

My worst two were a flight to Glasgow and a drive to Newcastle with no-shows at the end.

Also insanely annoying was the model who just turned up after not answering her phone for the two days running up to the shoot, nor during the three hours we knew she was on a train coming from Wales to London - We hadn't set anything up, it was lucky I was even in London.

When asked why she didn't pick up she said as there was nothing more we needed to discuss there was no need. And she was fat. I Think we named her on the site after one of Gordon Ramsey's pigs.

I'd like to say we never rebook a no-show, but we do. If they're really grade A we just keep trying endlessly as long as they're still responding to contact.

I've only had 1 no show and that was a fella....... fortunately we were going to do a b/b/g shoot so it became a b/g shoot........ but I only use known models......
and that no show will never work for me..... and the word is out he'll never work for me............

Boy am I am mug.

She emailed me last night to say that for messing me about she would do the shoot cheaper, and would 10.30am be ok.

I said yes, but could she phone me at 10am to say the shoot was on.

Guess what. A wasted morning.

I sent her this email. It has all the info on it:

I have just nipped home. I have to be quick as I have a shoot on in 30 mins.

As I said I wanted to speak to you on the phone before I set off, just so I know you are not messing me about.

You first said do the shoot 10.30am.

I phoned you at 10am, no answer.

You then text me to say 11.30.

So I text ok.

I then phoned you many times at 11 to see if you were still doing the shoot. No answer.

11.20 you text me to say your getting ready.

So I phone you no answer.

I email you to say I will set off.

At 11.40 you text me to say you are going out. You did not even phone me.

I text you back to say I am on my way.

You say you do not believe me, but book me Friday (which is not logical at all).
I phone many more times. No answer.

I arrive at your place. Your not in.

Let me say this, I am not sure if your simply playing games, or someone has put you up to messing me about, or your very poor at communication. But I always phone the model before I set off, as this way I know if she still wishes to do the shoot. I do not understand why you could not once answer your phone or ring me.

From the pics I have seen you are not bad looking. Indeed I was surprised that you live in a run down council house and drive a beat up old car. To me a model with your looks should be doing far better. In fact I know one model with similar looks to you, and only a few years older has her own home and a house in Spain, all paid for by modelling.

Now if its that someone (say another photographer) has told you to mess me about, that's fine. Maybe that's what you get your kicks from.

If its simply that your poor at communication, may I suggest that you speak to people on the phone rather than not answering your phone. It looks bad. People simply presume your not bothered.

But, as I say, messing me about may be a goggle for you, and I hope it is. But at the end of the day, shoot too many models to let one model bother me.

But I shall still give you the benefit of the doubt, and I will still book another shoot with you and give you the option to do it, or mess me about.

Had this a few times. Make sure you post her name on photographers boards as timewaster. Warn others you know. Only answer is to have a form on a web site and have the model fill in NI, address, two numbers, etc etc. Make them work before comitting, then you will improve chances of finding serious, professional models.

surprised your shooting in her house . . or were you picking her up ?

i try to meet them first a few days before the shoot to see if they seem flakey

then if they don't come to your studio it's a straight no show - no rebook

you could get into all kinda scrapes going to models places imo

Just to update.

Went back today.

Did a shoot.

She was great.

It turned out her mobile is busted (its a zazor) and so was not getting calls.

I will do lots more shoots with her.

I will post pics later for you to see.

This is one reason why i do not like the name and shame thing as it can create lots of problems.

Naming and shaming is so tempting but just not possible as you never know for sure that they aren't telling the truth.

I had a model not turn up for a trip over the summer, no call, no nothing. We had two days of nothing to do, so I was not a happy bunny and well out of pocket. Finally two months later she did call - Her mum had died - can't say I wasn't sceptical at the time, but booked her again anyway. In chatting to her when she did finally come back from a shoot it was clear that no way was she making it up.

Some days the dog really does eat their homework.

Anyway, glad it worked out :)

Ok so her mum died, she could have still made a phone call or even got someone to do it for her.
If people work for a company and someone dies they don't just not turn up for a work, they would phone to let people know.

I mean 2 months later is just taking the piss.

Ask who to ring? half the girls don't tell a soul they do porn, so even before they can get the call made, they have to explain all to someone.

In the real world yes, but porn isn't the real world for these girls, its one random days work so not turning up isn't a great loss to them. Its not like they'll loose a promotion or their pension.

And yes it still is kinda taking the piss, but as I can't find enough girls to shoot, whats the choice?
