What determines where Internet businesses are located from a legal point of view?
Let's say you had a company that was registered in Belize, ran from servers in the US, but you actually lived in the UK.
In such a scenario, which country's laws regarding internet content would you need to abide by - Belizean, UK or US?

Thanks - I might as well save my money and not open up an offshore company in that case.
Does anyone have an offshore company that they have to control their business?
I'm thinking of setting one up in the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.
When it comes to content there is a legal preceident in the UK that says when you upload content you are "publishing" it. So if you upload stuff from UK, doesn't matter to where or who owns the server you are publishing it from the UK and if its illegal under UK law you could get done.

So what if you send your donkey-porn to a mate in Amsterdam and he uploads it from there?

You will end up on the RSPCA register. ;)

Or should that be the Royal Dutch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals?
It's just so bloody confusing! :)

If you send it via the Royal Mail you're breaking the law there against sending obscene material via Her Maj's post.

Have you tried Greenie?

You might be joking but I know a guy who claimed to do something similar.
That stuff is fucked up... even if you could get round the UK laws I'd be worried about the guy that people say makes a lot of the beast content:

The UK and the US.

I think the case of the Internet Gambling site owner who flew into the US illustrates this point.
It's where ever they can grab hold of you from.
If you reside in the UK and break US laws, best not go there.
I was told, putting up a site targetting Germans and not sticking to their strict Internet laws, regarding under age access, could land you in a German prison cell if you go there.
