Each day I see people being killed or murdered.
Police say if somone comes at you, run to the nearist house!!!!
I much rather bring out a 44 magnum and blow the scum away.
So should we be able to carry a knife or a gun, to pretect ourselves?
A few years ago I would say no, but today I think yes.
Absolutely not - what we need is a more efficient and efficient police service backed up by proper sentences that will deter the majority of people from committing crimes in the first place.
The police on the other hand should be routinely armed with firearms IMHO but thats a side issue!

Well as the police take the side of the driminal, and if the criminal goes to court chances are he will be let off on a warning, surly its safer to have a weapon.
Put it this way, if your out a night, and somone starts on you, then stabs you. Would you not want a gum.

Wrong - the police are not on the side of the criminals, the government are by giving overly lenient sentences and by tying the hands of the police and courts. Ask any copper and they will tell you they are just as frustrated as anyone by the stupid sentences handed down.
I still dont think having a gun would make any difference because if you are allowed to have one then so will the other guy so whats the benefit? You lose most the deterrent effect right there - if the prick carrying the knife knew he was automatically going to jail for 5 years for carrying that knife in public then I beleive *most* would think twice about carrying it let alone using it. However, as it stands, if he is caught with it in his possession he is more likely to only have it taken off him and be given a caution - where is the deterrent effect in that?
Finally if you allow people to carry guns then you will get an increase in both simply accidental deaths as well as those where someone believes they were justified to use the force they did.

But Ithink, and I belive you will agree with me, is that if some sucker gets in my way as I drive, i should be able to pull out my gun and go.. blam..blam..blam, and shoot that sucker.

Allowing the general population to carry guns is an incredibly dumb thing to do. More guns would mean more people getting shot.

Voting No...most weapons carried by people are use against them when they are overpowered. Rather get my head kicked in ...than pull out a knife for protection...get my head kicked in then stabbed.

In a country where some of the great unwashed do already have guns and seem to be getting more of them, I see no reason why there shouldn't be some way the rest of us could legally have them too, if we promise to play nice.
Not everywhere that has guns has a huge problem with them - Canada has loads and nowhere near the problems the US has.

The point about knives is a good one for two reasons, firstly they're the weapon most likely to be turned on you if your attacker disarms you, and secondly because a knife in the hands of an idiot is still hugely dangerous - He'll stab you at close range, probably somewhere vital, where the same idiot with a gun will blaze away hopelessly inaccurately from a distance with a hand gun, hitting nothing. Thats if he opens up in the first place. People assume knives probably won't kill, while they assume a gun probably will; Thugs with knives are much more likely to use them than thugs with guns. Its almost a weekly news item here in the UK right now, a random kid or student getting stabbed and killed by passing thug, all cause the stude looked at him a bit funny.

No way! As this will give everyone a right to carry wepons and the death and injury rates will go up not down.
I do think its a good idea for women to carry those gas rape alarms though as they do work and makes it impossible for a guy to attack a woman with that going off.
If someone comes into your house thought its different, you should be able to do what the fuck you want to them, its my house they shouldnt be there.

The problem is that, in the US, statistics show that guns in the house are more likely to kill a friend or family member than they are an intruder.
Too many instances of kids finding them and playing around with them with fatal consequences.

In my garden I want a small cannon.
And for fun I want a machine gun.

Hungerford - according to reports on the BBC and elsewhere, not all of Ryan's guns were illegally owned.
in other words, he did have illegal guns, which he'd have had either way, so he would also have had the tools to commit the killings.
Dunblane - Hamilton was known for his violence streaks and liking for minors, yet he was handed back his weapons, which the police had already taken off him. clearly a police fuck up, the laws were in place to stop him having legal guns.
Switzerland has every male who served in the army keep their rifle as long as they are fit for service. at home. the swiss shootings are legion, aren't they?

I wouldnt really have a gun in house anyway for the reasons you mentioned, but id have a pretty good baseball bat to hit the twat till i got to the knife drawer!
