A waste of time now, I remember they used to get you a decent amount of traffic when first starting out but most I have seen have a small data base of around 100 sites, not much coverage really?

We used to get HUGE traffic in just a couple of hours with banner exchanges. :)

It depends.

Many sites will add your banner to pages that are hardly seen.

While you may give them a good spot.

Back in the late 90s and early 00s people just used to exchange hard links or banners on their sites as simple as that. Amazing now when you think back.

There use to be some big ones that send great traffic. But they all died. Well all the ones I knew of did.

Usually the cause is scamming cheating tosspots

I think the main problem with banner exchange programmes was google -
Google sees link backs and links in (banners, of course, counts as both - ) But now, links are more important because it is the words in that link that google sees and counts -
So - Maybe a good biz in the making - Hard link exchange programmes - For every 250 links you have clicked, you get to choose another set of keywords in your links - That would be quite a useful tool for googlers!
