Around about 1972 if my memory serves me right - Great song. Also, about the same time:
Without You - Nilson
Vincent - Can't remember the singer

Good year for music -

Blunstone gave up and became an insurance salesman for many years before going back to singing. Hard to belive isn't it? Such is the power of the publicity machine that few people have heared of the greatest voice in pop ever.

But concensus the greatest album of all time is "Pet Sounds". It's OK, but why so many people wet themselves over it is beyone me.

Daft cunt - The thread title asks the question "Is the winer takes it all by ABBA the best record of all time?"

Abba hit the commercial button very well - But you can not compare them with the likes of <!--#include virtually any half decent rock band here-->

"In 1975, "SOS" became the first song with a palindromic title recorded by a group with a palindromic name to hit the pop charts."

Isn't that interesting?

It was a rhetorical question. Its obviously a fact that its the best song ever :)

There is a real snobery that surrounds Abba, people try and lump them in with the Eurovision. But they were fantastic song writers and The winner takes it all, was a truly fantastic record

I am sad and love the 'save all your kisses for me' song (europian song contest winning song from the 70's. My nan sang it to me when i was a kid.

All ABBA songs are great, so are all Queen, Blondie, Beach boys, and carpenters.

How do you know what I've been drinking? If it's red, from the co-op and has a screw top I'll drink it.

Yes, ABBA were one of the greatest pop music bands of all time, really catchy tunes, nothing wrong with em at all.

If I have to pick an ABBA tune it's "Money Money Money". An ABBA curiousity that I listen to now and then is ABBA Oro. All their hits in Spanish, from when they tried to crack that market. Nice to hear Swedes singing Spanish translations of their english hits.

All good songs. But The winner takes it all was and still is something else. Download it from Itunes and you will be amazed how good it is.

Originally yes, but they made a comeback album "Minor Earth Major Sky", my friend nagged me into listening to it, and I must say it was excellent.

it is a good song and i do like a bit of abba now and again, But the greatest song of all time as far as i am concerned has to be either - queen - dont stop me now, or Elvis - in the ghetto.

The Winner Takes It All is truly unique as it was Abba with a dark and bitter edge.

But you're all wrong as it was recently made law that the best song of all time is Starman by David Bowie.
