View Full Version : why do niched sites convert better?

Ok this a bit of a strange one but heres why i ask - I set up 5 big tit sites and 5 bisexual sites about 6 months ago. I submitted them all to about 50-60 link lists and left them.
I had only one sale from the big tit sites and the traffic died off ages ago, maybe now seeing 1-200 hits a month to the 5 and a bad click through rate at that.
The bisexual sites sell and have done since the first week. Ok the sales are low but they are steady - a lot of which i put down to the fact im not great at freesite sales text.
But still the bisex sites get 6-800 uniques a month, which i put down to there being less bisex freesites per link list so surfers are limited in choice.
So why are people who are into more obscure niches more likely to pull out their card and sign up, over say the general populace who stick to teens, hardcore, babes etc?
This is probably a daft question but what the hell, i have no shame in showing my ignorance :)

Supply and demand, simple as that. The less there is of something, the more likely it is to sell. By the time it becomes mainstream, the market is bigger for sure, but there are more people selling the same thing.
With sexual niches it works even better than mainstream, because if the surfer NEEDS to see nosehooks or lace or rubber to get off, he is more likely to pay for it.

Sadly I never got around to promoting welly porn ( yes there really was a sponsor!!) so I never found out how many people really have a wellington boot fetish!
Possibly because the site owners know their target customer better and are a lot better at catering for their needs.
There are a million other reasons too but the first two there are a good start.

I have been giving this some thought whilst out and about this afternoon - isnt it something like this
Big tits being mainstream has say 4x more people interested than say stockings, but ultimately overall your ratio is still the same - say you get 500 people on your stocking site and 2 people buy, so your 1:250, you may get 5000 people looking at your big tit site because its more mainstream and an accessible porn subject to the masses. Out of that though maybe 500 are the real big tit fans, and if you get 2 sign ups, you effectively hit your 1:250, because the rest were just looking at 'porn' rather than for a specific kind of porn they knew they wanted?
I think it has something to do with attention to detail of Niche sites, its not run of the mill mass produced same as the last product, hence Amateur always attracts. Supply the demand and if your products good it will always be sought out.

as far as traffic goes, chances are that the ll's you submitted to have less submissions in that category, so you get a larger share of the overall traffic.
Far as sales go, yeah, as others have said..........it's more rare.
You may have also picked up a decent position in the serps, which will skew sales ratios in your favor, over standard LL traffic.

I think the success comes from getting the right combination of :-
1. Niche traffic...
to :-
2. Niche product
In this way you manage to get people exactly what they want.
This is 'one' of the reasons the review sites do so well... they basically SORT all traffic at entry point to find the user exactly what they want - i.e. the right niche.
As webmasters its up to us to give each surfer what he's looking for, if we don't he'll go somewhere else. Maybe your big tit traffic wants boobjobs and you're giving them big tit anal. Or maybe your big tit site(s) just don't convert that well. Just ideas.
I agree with everything everyone's said in this thread!!

Possibly because the site owners know their target customer better and are a lot better at catering for their needs.
There are a million other reasons too but the first two there are a good start.
And, if the site owners knows anything about marketing...
I read on gfy a couple of years back some guy saying he sent X amount of thousands of highly targetted traffic to a site very similar to my kirstyblue site - I looked through his work hoping he was good at his job and I could get a new affiliate - Yet in his text, he was describing a nnsgs as a porn model's site - Sure - The tour would kill that.
At the end of the day, to market a niche, you need to find out what makes the fetishist of that niche get his dick out - Work on that and you make sales.
And - simply submitting a site to a few link lists and moving on to the next site to "work on" is not marketing in the slightest-
news groups/yahoo/google groups etc -
(Those are the fastest ways to build up a shit load of emails for your daily spam list)
avs - backdoor/frontdoor traffic trading - This gets average traffic washed for better quality traffic
False link sites (only linking to very good sites who know nothing about marketing) gets you a lot of high quality return traffic - These sites usually have more members than traffic -
False tgps - Ah fuck it - The list goes on!
At the end of the day - Once you are in your chosen niche (or several niches), you have to have a lot of control over a big part of that niches traffic - Do that, and you can move on to the next niche -
