If porn became free, such as TV was allowed to broadcast r18 porn, or at least the paid adult channels could (UK I am on about), would that be the death of porn sites or at least make a big impact.

The nich sites would problably do ok, as the tv stations would probably not cover niches, but mainstream porn, would that be affected?

At the moment in truth the net is the main place fior porn. Most people do not want to go to a sex shop to buy dvd porn. In fact many do not know r18 in the uk is now legal.

And most people know most uk tv adult stations are not much stronger than ch4 late at night.

But if people could watch r18 porn on tv, surly they will not bother as much with the net.

I pick up something like 100 or so porn tv stations - All ppv and the quality looks pretty poor - These are going to grab those people who most probably do not have computers - The prices all look very high for a short time ov viewing.
Internet adult sites have to produce quality and set the right price to remain in biz - They also have to keep their marketing right - In the main, that is being done -

getting porn on free TV here (past 11pm obviously) i came to realise they only show mainstream porn, vanilla stuff. they have to cater the largest possible audience afterall, just like any other program. unless any TV channel is set on a mission to eucate or cater with a certain quality for smaller groups like BBC is with it's TV licence fee supported channels, we won't see much unsual stuff in TV porn.

PPV is a whole different story of course, but even then i'm pretty sure you can still find niches they don't cover properly.

If you’re business model is just based upon you simply providing “porn” for a monthly fee then every source of free porn will have an effect upon your bottom line.

The most successful independent sites are based on “personality” and “individuality” + proper marketing so even if you swamped TV, the web and top shelves with as much “porn” as you could then it still wouldn’t make any difference.

Simply being a provider of “porn” for a monthly fee is a very inefficient and out of date concept.

Niche porn would still thrive

Nah it would inflate the amount of visitors you get. Think about it, any savvy prodcer would give a url where people can see more online and theadvertising opportunities could be worth it.

johny's hit the nail on the head, porns free it thats all that you're looking for..
People will still pay for the niche stuff even if r18 gets licenced for uk satellite broadcast (although i doubt that it will, too many people making too much cash selling r18dvds) :onguard:
