Does your close family, mum, dad, sons, daughter's or even wife husband come to that know what you do?
My mum knows she was looking after our house while we where away and came across a licence from Web Legal that was "Teen Anal Hardcore Vol 1" so that was pretty much a give away. I filled her in on what I did and she was pretty cool about it.
When I first started used to work from home. I was thumbnailing some pics when my son who was about 8 at the time was watching me which I was unaware off. Then he went round telling all the family daddy spends his time looking at small pictures of naked women on the computer and my wife has a massive family 13 brothers and sisters so I took some right stick for ages. When anyone used to come to the house I used to be working on the computer but they just assumed I was perv looking at porn.
Anyway cut a long story short my son is now 17 and goes in the Army very shortly and we where having a couple of beers last night so I thought the time was right to tell him everything I did. He told me he had guessed ages ago at what I did for a living. Today I feel like a massive weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
Yes and have done since the early 80s. Never been very keen on living a "secret" life or having to lie to people. Its just business and our business is our business.

Yes I agree I couldn't care less about anyone else knowing what I do. But its not something you can tell a child surely when I started my son was about 7 and daughter about 3 so you have no option on "living a secret or life or lieing to them" My daugher is 13 and mature for her age but I wouldnt dream of telling her what I do. I'm not asamed of what I do but its not something I would want her to know.
That's not a situation that we have had to face thankfully.

we aren't exactly spreading the word with flyers and all, but those who see/know enough to get the idea are informed. the rest knows about our activities in the field of online marketing. :D

web design - it's true! I have a ton of non-adult sites, in fact my adult sites are really not that important in all honesty. I have a real job too lol
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:onguard:
i find it way more critical what to do about other contacts, like banks and tax man.
at one bank the accountant has a brother who i suspect is in adult as well, she never speaks out properly, but he is self employed and does "something with computers" and has issues with money not flowing regularly, which is the same issue with our account with them. regularly = 1 monthly income, not checks spread over the whole month.
when she isn't there, who ever is her replacement looks rather suspiciously at those checks from Holland and US.
i also had to report at the tax man about some 2003 expenses they didn't wanna aknowledge, comes up it's no longer the cool mid-30s guy being the contact but some end-50s, who appears a tad square.
so how far can i go with him? sooner or later i will have another check up anyway, so he will see some check copies suggesting something adult. question is, is he still my contact then, or can i just leave him in the mindset it's all "internet marketing" as i could make him believe this time? :D
it's the only 2 things that can be a hassle, tax man and bank. and fuck if i could read peoples' minds.
Hi,
All our close friends and family know what we do. We dealt with each one individually explaining in 'broad' detail. We felt we had to before we could do any of our major media work such as the Observer magazine and BBC television programme etc.
We have some friends who know what we do but don't wanna know all of the 'ins and outs' if you'll pardon the pun, and others who we have had quite long discussions with, as well as of course some who 'do it' too and have been in our pics/movies!
Our family are wonderful and were mainly concerned that we are both happy with what we are involved in and that we are safe. My Dad who was always very black is black white is white was going to react in one of two ways.... luckily he was positive and simply said 'just tell people you work in the Adult Leisure Industry' LOL
Our bank knows we are an internet design and marketing company. LOL
The taxman knows exactly what we do. We are currently are being 'investigated' because they don't have a clear concept of the amateur adult webmaster business. And it seems we could be turning somewhat into guinea pigs.
Unlike publicans, plumbers or shop owners for example, who can be compared to years worth of data the taxman hold's on previous investigations, people who work in the amateur adult webmaster industry are new meat to them.
We have had two meetings with them so far and everything is going smoothly.
Apparently it's a running joke in their office about Janey's "consumables" and if they can be classed for both personal and business use :takethat:
Our accountant obviously knows exactly what we do and most of his office watched us on the TV. Some of the guys from what he tells us wanted his job when he took us on and the girls all have a bit of a giggle about it. What we have bought over the years in terms of 'equipment' is a joke with them too...

All except a maiden aunt :)
Another question is how would you feel about your kids coming into the biz (when they reach adult-hood obviously)
Me - I have jobs all assigned for when they do lol
(Also plans for incorporating what they decide to study into it if possible - IE if one decides to go into medicine there's not much I can do with that - but if one decides to be an artist I can sure use that - and if one goes financial or legal that too can be used in the biz - keeping it all in the family)

I have told everyone.
The way I see it, I am not doing something I am ashamed of. If others do not like it, then its there problem.
Its a bit like if I was gay. Why hide it. (I am not gay).
Of course you get the odd person who for dome reason feels the need to but in.
For some reason if you are involved with porn, it means others can make comments. Which is odd as I do not go up to butchers and insult them (I am a vegetarian).

Yes all family, accountant, tax office, significant other & my oldest child who is nearly 13 are all well aware what I do. I'm not ashamed of what I do & it's a legal business so if people ask them I tell them!
One of my younger children did catch sight of a stack of mags which are locked away in my office & thought I was doing breast feeding promotion.
Most people know what i do or have an idea. My mam is cool with everything my uncle is a perv and asks for free passes. A few of my mates have offered there services for any videos/pictures thinking " it would be cool" tobe in a video/pictures
But one person that will never findout is my gran, fuck i would be disowned cut out of the will and everything. She is very very old fashioned.
Most of me family know what I do ... parents know, sister knows ... no big deal as my stuff is reasonably softcore & I see little to no reason to be that cagey about it.
Cashiers at the bank often ask what all the cheques are for, generally tell them I sell stuff on the internet ... accountant thinks I sell viagra etc (which I do, so it's only a white lie .) ..

My family and some friends know, but others just know it as web stuff ... but I like it that way for simplicity, otherwise you leave yourself open for loads of trouble, potentially. The poeple that need to know, know.

yup, that's how i handle things.. i remember being introduced to a friend of a friend in a pub, and the first thing he told him was what i do for a living.. his response... is that legal
I can do without other peoples small minded opinions, the important people know what i do and those that don't need to know dont :guinness:
