I was looking at GFY tonight. The usuall moronic threads were there, but I noticed every page now has a PR of 4 even new threads. That is very new. Previously all pages apart from the front page had a zero PR.

Might be worth throwing up some text links from your sig?

apparantly PR is starting to make a comeback in importance too. Very interesting might just have to go visit them :D

Well spotted. I am on Firefox so didn't notice until you mentioned it. Interesting.

Hmm, I can't get it to work with Mozilla.

oooh, I got it to work. If anyone else has any trouble go to Preferences > Advanced > Software Installation, and check the 'Enable software installation' box.

The Firefox I'm using seems not to have "Enable software installation"
and it blocked the installation

seems GFY is the only place where this happens, although there are boards with at least the same PR for the start page as GFY has.

why do i get this feeling it's some clever trick like the hi-jacked PRs and might eventually backfire if google decides to punish every site connected with it?

additionally, i just tried entering GFY without being logged in and got the "you are not logged in ..." screen. wouldn't google's spider run into the same issue?

as for now i refuse to believe these thread PRs are real.

if you are looking to get pr in firefox, why not just download the newly released google toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com

Luke

If GFY are somehow using some tacktick to get PR I cant see what they have to gain by that. They have the biggest forum by far even if you combined every other forum together probably. You could be right but it doesnt make much sense to me

I dont believe they would run into the same issue. But that said I find it hard to believe that a page that is created dynamicaly would instantly get a pr4. Jay is more of a Google man, if he ever gets out of the pub maybe he could shed some light on it

hhhhmmmm.

I just checked out GFY just now and of course the usuall moronic threads were still there, but now all the threads of a pr of 1

still all PR4 for me.

what they have to gain by that? there are enough things i wonder that about myself, yet people do it. :D
bragging rights? big dick contest? a bet? a dare?

I stopped chasing PR about 8 months ago ... havent noticed any changes in serps/income/whatever since doing so.

On that note - I'm off to the pub ... :P

Ive never changed PR, It worries me that if I build a whole empire hoping for google rankings, when google drops pr Im off to Tescos

PR isn't really of much importance anymore apart from the fact it makes it easier to get people to link to you. Quantity of inbound links is by far the most important think you can do to get decent rankings as long as you use good anchor text.
