Last two days my speed is only a bit faster than dial up.

Phoned BT, pased from one department to another.

Then spend ages with them asking me silly questions, such as is a printer installed..... clearlr reading off a list of questions on a pc screen.

I point out that I have done everything and its the line.

After ages he checks the line. Guess what, its the line. It has a fault on it.

So now probably have to weight ages for it to be fixed.

It drives you nuts to watch the emails come down the line so slow.

So if I am not on line for a day or two, its not that I am being rude, just the slow speed is giving me a headacke.

I guess its Friday 13th.

I have only been to the local shop for water. Its friday 13th, I am not even risking eating today. It was foggy, I was hating every minite, so I drove 25 mph just to be safe.

Only 4 more hours and it will not be the 13th.

Sounds like someone has got into your PC.

Could be spyware, or possibly someone has installed the MI5 version of that 'GoToMyPC' software where they can watch and take control of your system.

Do a CNTL-ALT-DEL and click Processes.

Any unusual .exe files there?

If your on ADSL its possible your router rebooted and BTwholesale has given you a shitty BRAS profile - which can happen sometimes - www.adslguide.org go to the forum and search for BRAS.

they said there is a problem with the line.

do not know when they will fix it.

i did a seperate check last night on www.bt.com/faults but it still has not been checked.

Also i have been on the phone on there 100 no to contact faults. so far 45 mins, and no answer. got to go out so not going to bother holding.

To me this is the big problem with bt, is that to save costs they do not seem to have a lot of staff.

BT have an odd situation, that its mainly all subbed out. The blokes who come and check the line are not the blokes who come and dig the hole, then someone else comes and fixes it, then someone else comes to fill in the hole.

If you are in business online I cannot understand anyone not having BT business broadband. We have been with them for years and anytime we have had a problem they have been there straight away to fix it.

did a speed test:

Speed Test Results
Downstream 1,554.5 Kbps ( = 1.5 Mbps )
Upstream 215.2 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )

is this bad?

It is if you are on an 8MB connection and its not if you are on a 2Mb connection - what are you meant to be getting according to your ISP?

no idea, but she said i was paying £15 a month and if i paid £17 i would get 8meg. so i said fine. she said it will be friday before it kicks in.

it seems to be working fine now. but i will test it by dowloading a file.
