IO use BT. I do not think its the cheapest, but I use BT simply as with it being BT I belive they will have less problems.
My mate has gone with talk talk. OK its free, but if you need to get and pc help its a premium rate no, so to me its cheaper and easer to pay.
I've been with Telewest Broadband since it started. Never had a problem. Not the cheapest at £35 p/m but cannot complain with the 10meg download speed. :)
Demon Internet, been with them since my first wobbly days of the net. They always get my vote.

Don't think it matters a lot. If you can choose cable or ADSL you have a choice, I can't get cable. Whoever I chose it's the same twisted pair down to the same exchange and if it goes wrong it's the same engineers who take their time to fix it. BT are the wholesaler, the retailer is responsible for first line support ( Indian call center that read a troubleshooting guide to you in a strange accent ), sales and marketing ( aproach you in the street to change supplier ), and billing ( the colour of your bill each month ).
Case in point, I'm with onetel, when it goes wrong they always blaim BT. Last week if went down for 12 hours, showing me the router with "BT Wholesale" written on it.
