Mobile net

I am looking at the best way to be mobile with the internet.

I have a laptop, but its a bit big to carry, for the odd emails (not easy to fit in my pocket).

I have a Palm Tungsten E and very tempted by the new E2 as its only £130 but it does not have wifi, but it does have Bluetooth, so I can use it with my mobile.

But for around £200 with a cheap t mobile contract or £70 with a £30 a month contract, I could get a t mobile pda phone, as it also has wi fi. Its windows based. Problem is, that its a bit on the big side.

Maybe some sort of 3g setup may also be a good idea.

Any suggestions?

Its just a shame that the Palm e2 does not have wifi.

have a look at 3's phones. myself i'm on a Motorola A925 (http://www.three.co.uk/handsets/handsetfeatures.omp?subleft=2&header=PAYMON&cid=1069432171223), the follow up model to that is the A1000 (http://www.three.co.uk/handsets/handsetfeatures.omp?subleft=2&header=PAYMON&cid=1096963176719).

on top of that you get a great navigation software for it, Wayfinder (http://www.wayfinder.com/), which makes use of the phones' GPS unit. never miss a chance to fuel up again.

We travel between the UK, Spain and France quite a bit throughout the year and we also try to get a lot of weekends away in the UK too during the summer. We use a little Sony VAIO laptop together with a Sony V800 3g phone for when we can’t get a wifi broadband connection while travelling. Sheer volume of mail that we get plus site updates and support issues mean that we have to have a laptop but they are so very small now and it gives you the piece of mind of being able to deal with anything that can crop up while you are away.

Seen a huge increase in public access wifi over the last couple of months in particular and you can even get a wifi broadband connection on trains now.

I have not used wi fi yet.

Is it easy to set up, and how much does it cost?

Very easy to set up now with Windows SP2 and apart from having wifi at home you can log on at places like Stations, Airports, hotels, as well as places on the high street like coffee shops and cafes.

The great side to wifi that is starting to grow now is with the "hotspot" ISPs that give blanket coverage of areas for a small subscription. All of the big mobile companies are rolling these out now as part of their business service.

I have a Palm Treo 600 - its a PDA running palm os with a quad band gsm phone built in. You can do full internet browsing, email, etc via any GPRS connection. Plus it has a full qwerty keyboard. The other option is an O2 XDA, but they are only tri-band phones (I needed quad band).

cheers,
Luke

Pretty good abroad especially with better hotels. When you go to travel just get a good travel agent to give you a current list of wifi hotels in the areas you are travelling to.

London is very good now and as well as the existing public access hotspots the main cellphone networks are just starting to roll out their "hotspot" services as well. Last weekend I saw that I had an Orange hotspot in the Novatel I was staying in and Vodaphone business is just about to roll out in the coming weeks with a whole network.
