The Black Dahlia
Aside from some nice camera work, this film is rather muddled and by the end I was just baffled. Some scenes taken on their own are really good, but the narrative as a whole is just a mess. Scarlett Johansson is completely wasted and strangely asexual. Highlight for me was Hilary Swank, who I just adore :)
3/5
Star Trek: First Contact
I think I've seen this four times now. It's just one of those films I can watch any time and not get bored with. Definitely one of the better Trek films along with The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country (he said, possibly controversially).
4/5
The Weather Man
Nicolas Cage is a weather man. A bit of a strange film in that there isn't really much of a storyline, just Cage dealing with stuff in his life. Watchable, polished but ultimately of no great consequence.
3/5
Angelheart
Brilliant movie, good twist at the end. Mickey Rourke plays a private detective hired to track down a crooner who disappeared after the war by Robert De Niro.

Lord of Teh Rings
Some dwarves and a wizard go for a walk. There's some fights and 2 dwarves fall in love. I fucking love wizards.

:lmfao:
National Treasure
Nic Cage looking for treasure hidden by the Knights Templar. Completely ridiculous yet mindlessly entertaining. Sean Bean was in it and he's always good value. Shame the female lead was a nobody. No pirates either :/
3/5
What Remains
Documentary profile of American photographer Sally Mann. Her photos are awesome and if you have an interest in taking photos (as I do, though I'm no good at it), it's pretty inspirational.

Eurotrip: Silly silly silly.. and I usually don't like silly films.. but this one entertained me. The "Scotty Doesn't Know" song is an absolute classic and must go down as one of the best movie-soundtrack songs ever.

Not to be missed are Vinnie Jones as a MU football hooligan, and Joanna Lumley as a dutch store owner.

The Black Dahlia
Confusing, miscast and at times laughable attempt at noir by Brian De Palma. De Palma lost it long ago. Josh Hartnett is a himbo...a boy playing at being a man. Scarlett Johansson looks uncomfortable. Not even the normally reliable Aaron Eckhart can save this mess. The only people who come out of this with any real credit are Hilary Swank and Mia Kirshner.
The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse
Not quite up to the standard of the TV series but good nonetheless.
A Scanner Darkly
Great stuff. Phillip K Dick adaptation which meditates on drug abuse, identity and the nature of reality. The animation technique lends itself to the subject matter and the cast know a little themselves about 'chemical indulgence'.
Night Watch
Watchable but slightly disappointing Russian horror movie which focuses on the fight between good and evil super-humans. Notable for the innovative use of subtitles which appear all around the screen.

Wow that looks awesome - £7.99 off play.com, done!
Happiness
The best comedy about a paedophile EVER. No really, it's dead funny. Possibly the blackest comedy you'll ever see.

I think I might watch this this afternoon. I hear it's about as funny as season 3, which was not nearly as good as 1 or 2, but it only cost me £3 and I should really watch it once.

I'd cut your losses. If you watch it you'll also lose 90 minutes you'll never get back. I'm a big fan of the series but the movie was just balls.

The other night i watched - 50 first dates
Usually i love the cheesy films adam sandler does, think hes quite funny, but this wasnt funny at all, it was watchable, but i must admit i did cry at the end. Ill blame it on hormones!
The film i watched before that was pitch black
Quite confusing for a blonde to watch although it was quite exciting in places lol. by the end (when i actually got what the film was about, apparently its a game or summat but i dunno im a blonde really, dont do computer games :( ) i thought it was a good story line.
Dark Star
Whassiname Carpenter's first film. The crew of the Dark Star are on a 20 year mission to clear a path in space by destroying planets that are in the way of navigation routes. After a series of mishaps Mother, the ships computer, can no longer persuade Bomb not to detonate. Even the dead captain is of little help in arguing with Bomb who is bound to do his duty.
(sorry if all my movies are dead old, but not seen a 'new' movie for ages)
Hard Candy:
A cautionary tale for all you photographers out there.Nuff said!

I am soo tempted to get Hard Candy on playusa!
Cellular
A very cheesy attempt at making a good thriller. All about kidnapping, but I was laughing my head off the whole way through the movie (not sure if i was supposed to be!) Very predictable!
Derailed
I generally don't like Jennifer Aniston as an actress, but her and Clive Owen really pulled off this thriller! They have an affair, and are blackmailed about it - Had moments where had tears in my eyes (I'm a woman!), but also moments where I was sat on the edge of my seat.
Sin City
Bit of an oldie, you've probably already seen it, but one of my friends summed up this movie well before I watched it "It's like a visual orgasm". I seemed to be the only one in the family that understood the ties between the different parts of the film. Cool cast, cool effects, weird storyline but love it!

You neglected to say if it was any good or not ;)
Personally, I thought it was among the more boring sci-fi movies I've seen.

Isn't Red Dwarf loosely based on Dark Star?

Snakes on a Plane
Some sexually deviant snakes bite people on the genitals (on a plane). I don't think the snakes even had tickets. Aren't there laws against this type of thing. I despair for airport security.

Superman Returns
A young lad in a superman costume ponces about a bit and doesn't break a sweat. Thrilling. Kevin Spacey phones in his performance.

No idea, didn't like Red Dwarf either ;)
The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse
Yes, crap. The basic concept was sound and had a lot of potential, but it ended up so dull in its execution.
2/5

Inside I'm Dancing
Irish film about a couple of physically disabled blokes (Rory with Muscular Dystrophy and Michael with Cerebral Palsy) who meet in a home for disabled adults. Hilarious antics ensue as Rory encourages Michael to get out more and sample life in the real world. They get a flat together and hire the wonderful Romola Gerai as their PA. I watched it last night and it was excellent. Still not sure why they used able-bodied actors in the roles. But I must admit they played their parts extremely well. I didn't even realise Michael was being played by an able-bodied until I looked him up. I knew Rory wasn't a disabled actor because of McAvoy being in Narnia. It has some absolutely great one-liners. An although the story is about these disabled blokes it's not really a film about disability so much as a film about living your life to it's fullest capacity.

The Cat From Outer Space
Film about a cat from outer space. It has a cat in it. From outer space. The titular cat was actually played by a bog standard Earth-cat, but he did well.
Aliens
Simply one of the best sci-fi movies ever, even if some of the effects do look a little dated.
5/5
Long Good Friday
bob hoskins is hard
bob hoskins fucks off the yanks
the IRA kill bob Hoskins
The Da Vinci Code
Forrest Gump finds religion.
Based on a pathetic excuse for a novel, the film is possibly worse. I can't say that with any certainty, however, as I fell asleep 20 minutes into the performance.

Saw last night
Children of Men
The worlds infertile so no more kids..Johnny manafacturers well and truly out of business. Best thing in the film Michael Caine as a pot smoking hippy...3/5
The Queen
Expected to dislike the film but was actually quite good...best thing Helen Mirren as the Queen excellent and she still looked quite sexy  ....4/5
Also showed the trailer for the new Scorsesse film "the departed" with Jack Nicholson in which looked quite good
Going to see Children Of Men myself tomorrow morning.
Saw that trailer for The Departed last week and it looked awesome. Great cast and I expect it will be an improvement on the mind-numbingly confusing original.

Layer Cake
Oooh gangsters Galore. Lots of violence, drugs and action. Makes you think more than Lock Stock and Snatch. Want to be married to Daniel Craig in it because he's v mysterious! MY favourite film of all time!
Serenity
Movie spin-off from the short-lived TV sci-fi series Firefly from Buffy creator Joss Whedon. Some great effects and action scenes, but weighed down by a 40 minute stretch where not much of anything happens.

Clerks II
Don't bother unless you like Kevin Smith's other "Jersey" movies. If you are into his stuff, it has everything you need - dick & fart gags aplenty, lashings of "inter-species erotica", discussions on the pros & cons of ass-to-mouth, all while still managing to be fairly intelligent & meaningful and even a bit sentimental. I just went for the dick & fart gags, obviously.
Oh and the bit about Lord of the Rings vs Star Wars had me wetting my geek-pants with laughter.
Matrix 1 & 2
Utter shite. Couldn't bring myself to suffer the 3rd one...

The 3rd one has big robots in it, and a weird ending.
Children Of Men
Set in the UK in 2027 or something. Womankind has been rendered infertile and the youngest person on the planet is 18 years old. The rest of the world has gone to shit, but the UK soldiers on, offering it's citizens a quick way out with home suicide kits while the police round up illegal immigrants and imprison them in Bexhill and home-grown terrorist organisations proliferate. Clive Owen plays the world-weary ex-husband of Julianne Moore's terrorist leader, Michael Caine is Owen's pot-dealing hippy mate in the woods.
Best film I've seen so far this year, it has much to commend it. Especially worthy of note is Alfonso Cuaron's direction, including two awesome single-take scenes, one of which stretches for about 10 minutes in the midst of a tank and gun battle. Also, major kudos to the production designers. Their work in creating an apocalyptic vision of the Bexhill encampment is Oscar-worthy.
5/5
Sean of the Dead
Zombies, cast from Spaced, funny movie, I really enjoyed it
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Two students and an older woman take a sexually charged road-trip across Mexico. Directed by Children Of Men's Alfonso Cuaron. Very watchable if ultimately inconsequential. Carries a downbeat coda that may leave some viewers thinking the film has more depth than it actually has.
3/5
Apollo 13
Very watchable true story of, err, Apollo 13. One of Ron Howard's better efforts.
4/5
A Short Film About Killing
A young polish man murders a taxi driver and is consequently executed. A brutal look at capital punishment from Krzysztof Kieslowski.

V For Vendetta
Fairly low-key outing from the Warchowski brothers, based on a graphic novel. Actually pretty good topical stuff. The last 30 minutes were very sketchy and dark but I think I was falling asleep. Note to self - don't start watching a 2 hour long film at 2am.
The scene near the end of V For Vendetta (the one with the Houses of Parliament) is one of the most exhilarating scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

Sounds good. I'll rewatch the end when I'm not asleep.
Hidden
A TV presenter receives strange video tapes of his own house, filmed from across the street, that lead to the uncovering of a dark secret in his past.
It's well made, well acted by Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche, and it's watchable. However there's no big pay-off or major climax (though that does make it more realistic) and the dark secret isn't really all that interesting. It's also a touch too long.

Its a good film I like Tim Roth in it he plays a good part a very under-rated actor.
The Glasshouse
Early, low budget TV movie based on a Truman Capote novel and starring Alan Alda as a mild mannered professor who ends up in prison on a manslaughter charge. Cliche ridden, but as The Shawshank Redemption demonstrated, that can be a good thing. That's not the case here unfortunately, but the downbeat ending was a surprise at least - 2/5
The Hitcher
C Thomas Howell tries to evade psychotic killer Rugter Hauer as he drives across the Texas desert. Reasonably entertaining and a cautionary tale that you should look at your chips before you put them in your mouth. Reminded me of Duel, but with more action - 3/5
