Who has felt the good and bad side of Google updates? it seems we are at the mercy of google these days and it concerns me...

In the last quarter of 2004 I went through a VERY golden period when I got some great listings on Google, I was really raking it in and I thought I had found the golden goose. Unfortunately, it didn't last and a few updates later my traffic started to go down and I lost some good listings, and with it the money. :joystick:

I hanker after that golden period again, and am trying hard to get my rankings up again. (My main site is a links list btw) . But it must have just been a lucky coincidence when my pages just happened to have all the right elements Google's algorithm was looking for at the time.

My PR is still the same as back then, but the great listings I used to have, have slowly disappeared. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Or perhaps I inadvertedly did something wrong somewhere that Google didn't like and got penalised. I know they are constantly tweaking their algorithm though.

I do worry sometimes that a lot of my income is at the mercy of one search engine. (altho I do have bookmarker and traffic from other SE's etc., the majority of my good traffic comes from Google tho)

I am now looking to set up more a>b>c type trades (natural linking) as I understand this is looked upon more favourably by Google than straight forward reciprocal link exchanges.

While we're on the subject if anyone wants to set up some of these more 'natural' linking trades (with PR4+ pages) drop me a line.

What are your experiences in getting Google to work for you? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts..

Talking of link lists only. There are new scripts around for link lists that are alot more google friendly.

Here is a free toplist script http://www.aardvarktopsitesphp.com/ that has an option of googlle friendly links.

Well traditionally a toplist link would be something like website.com/index.php?a=in&u=username

Not google friendly, google wont read that as a link. The new toplist scripts will use this

website.com as the link, but the image is served like website.com/image.php?a=in&u=username

so the link is a real link. But the toplist script counts it just like a traditional toplist, by using the image

Obviously toplists are just one type of site. But its one way of increasing google if using them

I wrote a htaccess once to make one of my toplists more google friendly ...

However I can't remember what site I used it on, what prompted me to write it or what effect it had.

Htaccess, Paul uses that...Makes the URLS go from ...index.php?id= or whatever the lines goes to index.shtml which is apparently more google friendly...

Can I take a look at your site? I managed to get my wifes site page one for search terms: used panties, dirty panties and wet panties. I have managed to get mine to page one for 'adult personals' and 'gay sex dates' and 'sex live porn' search terms.

I was #1 for several months, I lost everything about 4 months ago and I have managed to get each one back. I did the same thing for every site each in turn so I think I know what it could be.

I am not saying I have the answer to get someone to page one but if you have been there before and lost it I might know how you can get it back.
