View Full Version : Fecking mobiles
this is getting seriously annoying, people keep telling me i cannot be reached on the mobile. it's basically always near me, it sits in its desktop charger on my desk all day, if i go out i have it with me. all indicators show i have perfect 3G connection, yet that bastard won't ring. sending/receiving SMS and mail work fine, calling out works fine. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

sounds daft, but try ringing yourself from a landline, then if it doesnt work, get onto the network provider or maybe the phone is damaged .. worth a go ...
been there, done that, it doesn't always happen. it's like going to the doc, once you are there, that pain bugging you for days is gone.
but the fact that some go to such lengths as coming around or sending letters or try the land line if they happen to know it suggests they are not pulling my leg.
what i suspect is a routing problem. it's possible to take your number with you when you change proiders. i have the same number since about 10 years now, so i kept it when i switched from t-mobile to 3. thing is, people call me on the t-mobile number and t-mobile is responsible for routing it so that the caller is redirected to the 3 network.
now would i as t-mobile be interested in my former customer being pleased with their new provider while i have to make sure they can be reached there? ;)
i was with them for the mentioned 10 years, so i obviously wasn't exactly disliking their services. only cos 3 offered a great deal with calls from 3 to 3 being free made me switch the whole family. funnily the kids and my parents have 3's numbers and never have probs with people not reaching them.

get a second number for the 3 phone and pass it round if tthat is the problem(and it does sound likely) .. ball ache, but what choice you got short of going back to t-mobile ... rock and hard place mate
don't i know it? i needed to vent a bit. most likely will end up with t-mobile again. they now offer a package of 5 phones using VPN, which makes calls within those 5 numbers free as well but would give the kids contract phones rather than prepaid ones. considering their usage, i'd prolly need to win the lottery to pay for that. :D
makes me wonder if they just remove the routing or if T then routes me to 3 and 3 routes me back to T. that'd be just my kinda luck.

the original version of the Palm Treo had a firmware issue that caused it to miss calls all the time....maybe you can check your phone maker's website to see if they have an update.
cheers,
Luke
Forget all the fancy mobile shit. A phone needs to do two things
1. Make calls
2. recieve calls
Anything else is a load of bollocks. Ive I want to surf the internet I use a computer, if I want to make a phone call I use my phone.
Nokia rule in this respect
yes and no, it's nice when you are in meetings and can check/send mails at any time, and with Agile Messenger (http://www.agilemobile.com/agile_messenger.html) i have ICQ on my phone. AOHell, MSN and Yahoo are possible too. throw in Netfront (http://www.access-netfront.com/) to replace your standard browser and all is good.
i also have an Office package that will open .doc and .xls files, so even in the most surprising situation, i can handle practically everything biz related.

Oh good. When I rang and rang to tell you I love you, but never got through I thought you was avoiding me.
Now I honestly believe you when you said you never received my calls or messages. So all is forgiven, even though I made two visits to Hastings :takethat:

heh, Hastings is a fucking nightmare with a modern network. supposedly it's totally 3G, but i only ever got 2G service. best connection there is with an older t-mobile handset.
