Im a P.C person but do need a mac for a few things, Ive got to upgrade my mac. At the moment Im using an imac, but although I dont want to spend alot, I dont want an imac again.

The only program I really run on it is Quark Express

Any suggestions?

how urgent is the upgrade? Apple is switching to Intel x86 CPUs, IIRC the first systems based on that will be out early 2006.

question now is, did you want a bargain in a few months when the old series are being sold off cheaply or a new and maybe not flaw free system. while the bargain is prolly the nicer option, it could result in lack of support in 2 years.

A dual G4 will be more than perfect for Quark. Can't you use Adobe Indesign on the PC and export to PDF which should keep *most* printers happy? Quark is getting long in the tooth now. PDF's are way better with no fucking about with fonts/images.

I have to agree with Mattyboy. Indesign is the way to go. In my main full time job I work for a national publishing company and over the last 12 months we have now ditched Quark completely exporting everything to PDF for sending to the printers.

The problem is I have a ton of files on quark, which would meen recreating them all again when a customer re orders something, as you know with full colour brouchers and stuff it would be a nightmare.

But maybe thats the way to go, anyone got a hookey copy of indesign for PC?

Out of interest are you ditching Macs too and going to P.C or is that one step to far for publishers

I'm pretty sure you can import Quark files into Indesign.

I wonder if you can import quark docs from a mac to indesign on a pc without it all geting fucked?
