The thing that would worry me is that there will be huge public support for it and that could get a foot in the door for further censorship. It's kind of like the US's recent 2257 revisions...They called it "The Adam Walsh Child Proection and Safety Act" which nobody is against but the law really did nothing much to toughen CP. It has just made it a total pain in the ass for adult webmasters that display hardcore content. In my opinion...they should not be lumped together but they are.
Edit...And the Adam Walsh case didn't have anything to do with porn int he first place.

Lets face it, its just a law so Labour can look good.
It means nothing.
It will do nothing.
It will not reduce rape or murder.
Its just going to make more people criminals.
It just makes me have less and less respect for the law.
Lets face it, its just a law so Labour can look good.
It means nothing.
It will do nothing.
It will not reduce rape or murder.
Its just going to make more people criminals.

Amen.
You are going to have to watch your posts dude as you are beginning to make a lot of sense.

Sadly that completely sums it up

It means nothing. (Might mean less hits to your sites?)
It will do nothing. (Might reduce your income?)
It will not reduce rape or murder. (Agree)
Its just going to make more people criminals. (Totally agree)
It just makes me have less and less respect for the law. (Me too)
DVT, whilst I do agree with your views, as I mentioned on another post today my feeling is that the very fact that this (Legislation) might go through is concerning, it will possibly put off a number of surfers even looking at some sites through fear / misunderstanding of what they can & can't look at & therefore play it safe & not hit the "Enter" button.
The result of course will mean less hits, less sign ups, less income :(
It will be interesting to see tomorrows press, I'm sure the Daily Mail is gonna have a bloody field day on this !
So although the law once passed will solve nothing, it might, from an AWM point of view, have significant consequences :(

I agree, you will have to addapt to the new laws , maybe explaining you are law friendly, that "This site doesnt contain.....(whats been outlawed)"
The thing is though J,T what if you were an affiliate & were carrying their link or even say their Theatre, there's no way that you can be sure of all the content on such being within the confines of the new law, yet ultimately I guess you would be resonsable ? (All v grey to me)

I'm no solicitor, but cant see how this new law changes anything for affiliates. Its the consumer who is now responible if he has that material on his computer. So at worste its between him and the courts, or even between the site and the courts, cant see how affiliates could be dragged in, even if the authorities could trace what was sent where. You dont have control what the surfer downloads.....Besides the sort of content they are talking about, I doubt anyone would be promoting anyway, even if you could find s sponsor
