View Full Version : Live8
Is great, my missus put it on this afternoon and I said "We ain't got sit and watch this shit all day have we?" Now I'm right into it and it's been on all day.
I don't think anything can beat Live Aid, but this is pretty good :music:
i am blessed, no station here is covering it. imagine 147 channels without Live8. har. these moments make me wonder if i could be wrong and there is a god.

No, I mean for a terrorist, it would be the ideal opportunity.
Especially when it switches to the USA.
It would not have to do any damage, just a large explosion.

Ok I am with you now. So a large explosion without any damage.. Boom
Then we can get the security forces to take out the terrorists with CAP guns.

WHOA!, I was saying early to my kids that one of my school mates played at the Live Aid. He played the drums with Paul Weller.

they should be availble still, the tour doesn't start till October, and then they are only playing for the merkins. Europe starts mid January 2006.
my tickets are for Feb 2006, got them since a few days and damn is time crawling since then.
but hey, i waited 21 years to hear about a concert in time, not have anything planned and still manage to get hold of tix. most likely cos i phoned about 2 minutes after the email newsletter hit my inbox. :D

I first saw them in 1986 on the 'black celebration' tour and by then they were way past the 'noofters' phase. there's some interesting stuff on gareth jones' site http://www.garethjones.com and also http://www.depmod.com for DM crusties like moi.

I thought I was gonna miss the whole thing cos i was going to a coldplay concert - but they played it on big TVs before the concert started. I cried when they brought on the african girl who had 10 minutes to live but survived etc etc. So sad!!

Yep and 20 years later on and Three Trillion Dollars spent on aid and here we are, little African girls who only have 10 minutes to live
She only had the 10 minutes to live 20 years ago though. The point was that Live Aid helped her survive, thus wasn't a waste of time :)

Yup. Each to their own I suppose Johny but I would rather give aid to them than spend money down the pub. Maybe its a female thing.

I dont think anyone said it was a waiste of time, but 20 years later on and Three Trillion Dollars spent on aid and here we are, there are still little African girls who only have 10 minutes to live

I'd rather Europe and the US allowed these countries to be allowed to sell there products to us, give them a real chance of allowing them to get out of poverty so in 20 years time we are not still having little girls in africa with only 20 minutes to live.
For example, did you know that the 10 poorest African countries are natural growing grounds for sugar. They can grow it easily and sell it cheaply, but the EU has capped the amount of sugar they are able to sell to less than 1% of what the EU consumes. Currently there are talks on cutting this further. Thats just one of thousands of ways we keep those in poverty dying of hunger.

i'm not sure if that rule is still in power, but there is/was a regulation saying you cannot import any product from outside the EU and sell it for less than the same item produced in the EU.
example bananas. they could be way cheaper, but Spain grows a relatively smallish amount of bananas on the Canary Islands, which is highly uneconomic due to high costs and water shortage, but makes bananas a EU product and you cannot import african or american ones and sell them cheaper than those spanish ones.
Spain even protetcs its market against any foreign bananas.
ther must be quite some money in it for the import companies, cos the dad of one of my daughter' schoolmates runs a nice biz with importing the yellow fruits. ONLY bananas, that's his whole biz. considering the trucks he runs, the money he donates to the school and the Benz he drives, i doubt he is suffering any finacial shortage.

oh its very much still in power, John snow was talking about it yesterday. out of a full 365 days in a year they are only allowed to supply 3 days of sugar. Thats less than 1% and they are talking about cutting that. We often talk about what we do for them and how we help, but still, lots of the problems they have is due to the fact that they cant capitalise on their own resources in many ways.
Things like band aid and live aid are great, but as Bob himself has said, band aid was just that, a band aid, unless we seriously change the way we deal with these countries, then in 20 years time, we will be having the exact same conversation. We keep blaming the yanks, but the EU has just as much blood in its hands if not more.

I have my depeche mode tickets too! Live8 was great but I wish the BBC would have shown or made available the France and Berlin shows.
They were available on Sky Digital and Freeview via the red button.

that the paris coverage was on sky and I didn't know it..the Cure and Placebo played
I watched the UK Live 8 concert, Canada sucked some major ass and I am so happy I didn't waste time getting tickets...the only good band was Jet & DMC and with DMC it was only good because Gary Dourdan was singing.....sometimes I wish I lived back in England......
