Anyone else suddenly getting ads dispproved because the site is a "teen porn concept" or some such rubbish? After they've taken £4500 over the last few months on the keywords for this particular site, they suddenly decide to disapprove it. Is that good business sense, or are they just getting more right wing? It makes me laugh that they take the money for a good while, then decide they don't like something - and this campaign has been running for quite some time, not the usual disapproved after 2 days lark...

Looks like it's back to the drawing board as that was my most successful campaign on Adwords :( At least I can live of the rebills for some time to come...

I tried using "teen" in adwords about two years ago and they weren't having it then so I'm surprised you got away with it now.

I meant to post this as a thread but since we're talking adwords here goes.

I've used adwords on and off for years now and every single time it's been a complete waste of time and money. Sure I can increase hits remarkably (like by several times my usual sometimes) but they're all, almost without exception, completely useless. Last time I read up carefully about it before hand. Chose keywords that were very specific. I looked at similar sites who use them and worked out which words they were using by seeing when their ads appeared in a Google search etc etc. And .... useless. Completely useless.

Trouble is, and you'll prove me wrong no doubt, the maths doesn't square. If the sign-up rate is 400:1 and it's costing 0.03p per hit it's costing £12 to get a sign-up. As an affiliate you get back $15 per sign-up. Why can't we buy clicks in dollars? I've tried this but somehow google knows I'm from the UK and charge in pence not cents. And 0.05p doesn't equal 0.05c. It's discrimination. I never got into first place either, so most of my "competitors" must have been spending 10p a hit. I guess what you're gonna tell me is that Adwords needs very fine tuning between working and not working. Afterall if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

...and another thing :-) when I look at where these hits are coming from most are not coming from Google at all but other sites that have signed up to place Google adverts. Some of them look right two-bit crappy sites. I've no proof at all but it would be so easy for these guys to use robots to increase their hit rate.

...and another thing. I've also noticed that my normal google hits go down when and ad is running and, what is more worrying, for some months after I take the ads down. What is Google up to here? I think I know!

Good! Got that off my chest. :ugly:

I used to push adwords for a fair bit, spend a good amount of $$ with them as well. Not a mega bucks spender but larger then the avg webmaster would have.

I stoped as it was getting too hard to convert to a decent ROI, the reviewers had lost the plot and I was starting to get the shits up over their crawling bot software setup (landing page relevance checker)

Interesting - it wasn't even a teen porn site I was promoting, not "teen" in the ad, I think the actual site might have used the word teen somewhere near the bottom on the third page in, but for all we know it might have been part of the word "eighteen" in the 2257 link.

The ROI has never been utterly fantastic, but has run at a steady profit (but only after a while and taking into account the good rebills).

I did manage to sign up in dollars and still pay for my clicks in cents :)

I've dabbled in mainstream and that's even crazier - I can get cumshots for $.05 a click, but try books or something and you're looking at $1 a click - with mainstream payouts at about 5% that's just not going to work out!

Looking on the bright side, I now have an extra 2k a month to throw somewhere else. Maybe I could buy one of those "Make millions with Adwords" courses or I might be better of spending it on beer to piss up the wall another way :cheers2:

I'd love to know how to get around this paying in sterling lark.

I tried getting rid of all cookies on my pc in case they remembered me from before. Then I tried downloading a completely different browser (opera) and signed up from that at google.com and still it charged me in pounds. I notice now that whatever browser I use google always fires up google.co.uk. Even if i type google.com into the address line.

Maybe in reality it makes no difference. Perhaps what would cost me 5p to get into 5th position say would cost someone paying in US$ 10c. I dunno!

They've just banned my ads because of the word "pussy" in my domain name ukpussytalk.com.

An update on this -

Another raft of disapproved ads this morning, most of them saying my display url is inaccurate (in all three cases the destination url is exactly the same as the display url so there ain't much I can do!).

I do find it strange though, that when certain campaigns are disapproved, other campaigns suddenly start getting a lot more clicks, meaning the daily spend doesn't really go down.

I think Adwords is turning into a con :(

I'm coming to that view too.

I guess if it was that easy to make money with adwords, all porn sites would use adwords and if all porn sites used adwords then it wouldn't be that easy to make money from it. If you see what I mean :-)

Yes, I understand.

I had a look through my account and notice some keywords are now set at $10.00 a click minimum bid. Ten dollars a click - on the most reasonable calculation it would be costing you $3000 a signup!

I used adwords a few years ago for a mature tgp...spent about £300 on adwords with not much back in return...think your better off being listed in goole as the norm, yeah you could be a few pages back from the !st search page but its easier on your wallet!
