When Zidane was sent off in the world cup final, it did appear that both the referee and linesman missed it.

Then there was quite a time delay between the event and the red card being shown.

Rumour has it, a 4th official or other person informed the referee of what happened and thus created football history by making video evidence or an off pitch opinion count during a live game.

I agree. Its obvious the ref and linesman didnt see it. So what happenened? Either the ref consulted the spectators or he confered with the 4th umpire. But the length of time it took suggests he may have even looked at a video.

So what fucking happened? I hope it went to a fourth empire who showed him a video. That way we can introduce a 4th umpire system

I think he probably got a message through his ear piece letting him know that he needs to show the red card, the ref had to pretend to consult the linseman cos he obviously didn't see it. The linesman diddn't either, but he also got a message in his ear to pretend to let the ref know. FIFA are watching eveything and monitoring it all so no surprise this could happen. I think the reason it hasn't happened with other decisions, although saying that it probably has, is cos this was the final and he HAD to be sent off for that.

Can you imagine the row if the red card had NOT been shown... as Zidane would certainly have taken a penalty and probably before Trezeuget So france COULD have had two succesfull pens and therefore less pressure on the guy who missed...

If France had won the shootout with Zidane scoring I cannot imagine the uproar..

They would have had to replay the whole game after seeing the video evidence..

Thank fuck Italy won, as no team whose player did that would deserve to win..

Just as well he wasn't Columbian... a nice reception would be awaiting him back home

Oh probably, as everyone was in love with them..

even the BBC commentary was arse licking the Frogs and Zidane especially..

they were willing the French to do well, Even cheering every French penalty scored on ITV (i saw the highlights later)..

they said at the start of this world cup that there were 5 officials per game

3 for on the pitch, 1 reserve - what we know as the 4th official and a 5th guy who would act as backup for the back up.

The 5th guy was also going to watch the video replays as we see them though was NOT allowed to make call based on the replay.

what ever happened it was the right it was shocking thing for someone to do esp a player like Zidane.
