I watch one hour a night in the background while I work. I am a pretty highly educated person (soon to have masters) and think I have a decent head on my shoulders. I get into it about once every other year. I didn't watch last year so this is that year. Watching them sleep is where I would have to kill myself but I don't see why it is any worse than most things on tv if you don't live for it.

I take your point (and thanks for the link btw) but is that something to do with the dire state of TV now or is it something else?
I don’t buy the reality TV thing, as BB is clearly not reality TV. Some of the social misfits that they fill the place with are clearly "playing a part" and have no grip on reality at all.

Big Brother is far from reality.... some of these people are chosen from agencys for their talents however small that is

Someone here has just shown me a pic of a golden ticket winner who supposedly won her way into the program (or prison depending upon how you look at it I suppose) and she is meant to be a stripper or something? Fuck she takes ugly to a whole new level and would get cabbages thrown at her even in a Tyneside working men’s club on cheap night.
Nikki seems popular, must be cos she off her fucking nut.
I saw a bit the other night and she said "I wouldn't wipe my arse with Richard or Lea, I would rather use toilet paper" fucking div :takethat:
Nikki can be quite funny and charming, but that often gets overlooked because of her extraordinary tantrums. At least she recognises her faults though, often showing a level of self-awareness in the diary room that's lacking from most of the other housemates.

I don't really think it matter either, which was my point. I just said it because usually it is thrown in that people akin to brain dead morons watch such shows. I also agree it isn't reality. Nothing where people are put into an artifical environment is by the very premis reality. It is more 'fishbowl' than reality. I think the number of promo girls in the house this year shows the mistake the show is taking. In the first years the people tended to have actual jobs in the real world - teachers, carpenters, etc but as the show as gone on there are less 'real' people and more actor and model wannabees. I guess the nature of the 'fame' that comes with the show would do that.
The first season I actually watched was the one where they split the house in two - poor side and rich side. I think that was the only time where I felt that for a little bit is was an actual sociology experiment (what one of my degrees is in so I am a sucker for sociology stuff). If they did more stuff like that I would be more interested.
I am the type that will watch and then the second it ends not care about knowing anything else about anyone in the house ever.

I had been hoping the UK one would adopt some of the German BB ideas. One of them was BB "The Battle". It had rich side/poor side and the HMs were in teams. The tasks were team tasks, the winners taking the rich side, losers the poor side. The next series they had a year long and the house was split into poor/middle/rich The poor were outside (with a wooden lean-to type shelter and camping stove etc. The middles were in a "granny's house" type living area, and the rich had the luxury and pool etc. The middles were also the servants of the rich, having to do their bidding like cooking and cleaning etc. They had group and individual tasks to move between the areas.
They then did a BB Village, with work areas etc that was supposed to be an unending series. But it crashed (was too Truman Showish for my liking)

they killed the show by getting shot of Grace - petes annoying and so theres no one worth watching!

Present companies with promo interests in there excepted of course (and who I wish all of the best possible too over the following weeks as well) the format of the program is just all wrong. Instead of wanting to be kept in week after week they should run it so they are begging to get out.
They could put snakes and big spiders in there at night?
Put a housemate in from Broadmoor for a few weeks to thin them out a bit?
Make them scream and beg to get out.

Compared to the average person, indeed. However, compared to my PHD holding mother no. Still, I wasn't bragging as I could care less on what level somebody is educated to. It was just to make the point that not everyone that watches it is stupid.

Education and common sense have nothing to do with each other, that is for certain. Some of the 'smartest' people I know have trouble dealing with simple life skills.
