View Full Version : UK Porn Magazines
Paul from Smiths Media just sent me two porno mags. They are this months issues and we bought a full page in both of them, then split the page into 4 I had two quarters, Paul had a quarter and Cardenal Sin had a quarter.
We used it to advertise some pay sites. I advertised http://www.sendyoursecretary.com because one was a uniform magazine, plus http://www.britishdoggers.com because its by far the best selling site Ive ever had. Cardanel advertised http://www.kirstyblue.com and Smiths media advertised a phone sex chat. I did the artwork and away it went.
Anyway, I just got the magazines through and the first thing I notced was that one was £5.99 ($10.92) and one was £6.99 ($12.75)
The second thing I noticed was the quality of the shoots, all as far as I can see were very old. One was a scene that Ive seen 100's of times of Sandy Caine with some other girl outside.
I doubt any of the shoots were exclusive
Plus where as we may have between 50-200 shots in a gallery (photoshoot) they have 15-20
All of us are producing better content, than these magazines hope to publish. We are far more up to current trends. Plus value for money, these sites just dont compare. So firstly we should give ourselves a big pat on the back.
Plus you cant even have a wank with a magazine, turning the pages with one hand and wanking with the other?
Be interesting to hear what response you get from magazine advertising.

I really went about it the wrong way, but it was a last minute deal Paul got so I didnt really think it through. I should have used other domains and redirected the traffic through a tracker so I could see the sign ups.
I guess the second thing to realise with magazines is that they are out there for a long time, people do keep them, and look back on them later
Might be worth setting up a tracker/filter page and exploring it a bit further?

The problem is the advert has the main domain which is the same domain that affiliates send to also. So the only way I can see results I guess, is if bookmarked traffic pics up, but that wont tell me if the signups are comming from the magazine. Unless there is a big increase in signups over a short period from bookmarked traffic, which I dont expect as the circulation is europe wide and I guess the magazines will sit on the shelves for months before people by them.
Sorry, I meant for another advert in the future. Its a bit late for that one as it would all be type in.

It was a last minute rush and thanks to tj for sorting out artwork etc - (plus my cut of the payment)!
Difficult to track, but I will work on the different amount of average typeins - The kirstyblue site averages 450 typeins a month so anything over, I shall assume it's from the mag -
As tj says, the mags will be on the shelves, in drawers and next to toilets for a few months, so the chances are, this kind of adverting will have a lasting affect.

Be interesting for me to hear what the final results are from the magazine ads. Cardinal eccos my thoughts when anitionally putting forward the offer to JT and others.
Interresting point on the content, I never really looked that closely at it.

Yep it was all bought stuff, all unoriginal and alot quite old. Maybe 7 sets in total, enough to make 7 short galleries

Hi
Which magazines were they?
I have heard that one firm that has over 20 titles (in fact it was on TV a bit back), that if you send your shots in to magazine xxx, they will publish them in magazine yyy.
They do not send you payment unless you ask for it. As such photographers subscribe to all the magazines to see if they find any of there shots.
I used to have stuff published but got messed about on payment, so I stopped.
I have seen in the Sunday Sport models I have shot. I think they use old shots, as they had one model in it. But in the shots she had not got breast implants. Yet she had them put in two years earlier. So I know those shots were at least 2 years old.
These magazines do have high volume in sales though. That said I though UK porn mags were selling for around £2. Cheap and cheerful but mainly adverts.
Hope you get a good response.
I will be interested in what traffic it produces.

Thats just one of the reasons why magazines died.

To monitor traffic from magazine advertising you could also use a sub folder in the url, ie www.mypornsite/fhm and redirect from there...

I prefere to get a domain from somewhere like reg 123 and redirect it with the code, but we just didnt have time this time

I've advertised in mags for the last 4 years or so advertising phone lines & text services I supply but I also add a link to a website that suits that ad i.e. domme site for domme phone lines etc. The advantage of the mags is the average wank mag is kept for 3 years so it is a continual drip feed of traffic rather than a big hit.
GoldStar who now only produce hardcore mags produce your artwork free of charge although yes some of the sets they use aren't the newest!
If anyone ever wants late space in GoldStar, Fantasy or Blue Point mags I am authorised to pass on agency rates to referrals :)

Does anyone remember the mag that was just for internet porn, it did reviews, had a free cd with it etc
Can't think what the name of it was though. I always thought it was a interesting concept, although I think they did end up going bust.

:) That's the one xnet..it was up for sale a couple of year's ago by the receiver I had a friend who inquired about buying it, it was up for relatively very little.
He was going to buy it and relaunch it in conjunction with prepaid porn card's that where all the rage in the US a couple of years ago.

I got it a few times.
In truth it was very expensive.
And to be honest I have seen stronger shots in the Sunday Sport.
It was a great idea, but just went about it in the wrong way.

I think the magsneed to change to be pushing their readers onto the internet. They could simply say in each spread
'go to .....,,,.co.uk and see the full set or text xxxx and have the images sent to your phone'
I don't think this will happen, from talking to people and thinking about things the mags are and content are not relevent - its the phone numbers and services they own and promote in the ads that generate the revenue.
Adverts in niche magazines seem to get a better response. For instance, in my field (fetish), adverts in magazines such as Skin Two, Marquis, Ritual etc can be rewarding. The magazines are also high quality and thus very collectible, ensuring that copies will always be circulating in places like eBay, giving each issue a useful lifespan of several years.

I love the mags like Chastized and at £10 a peice they are a great magazine, I imagine the circulation is very small though
So how much we looking at?
what he said.
