View Full Version : who knows anything about lung cancer?
My dad came around earlier.
Sorry for those who I was speaking to on ICQ, that I had to cut you off.
He's been coughing up blood for the last 2 weeks, hes been to the doctors who refered him to the hostpital. The doctor said its either pneumonia or something serious. We take that to be cancer.
But I spoke to my next door neighbour, who is a throat surgeon, he thinks it could be lots of things. Anyone gone through the lung cancer scenario?
Sorry to hear that and hope that everything is ok.

My dad just told me 5 days ago that my uncle has got lung cancer.
I do not know how bad it is.
He smoked years ago.
He had some tests, but will not find out the results for two weeks.
I think he is getting operated on at the end of July, which to me seems a long time.
I have not phoned him, as I am not sure what to say.

Not sure.
I am not sure if he is booked in, or if its down to the results of the tests.
Its just bits my dad has told me.
He said somthing about removing part of the luing, but if its spread then it will be kimo.
Cancer runs in the family. His sistor (my mum) died of breast cancer. While his dad (my grandad) got throught cancer.
I am not sure when they found out he had cancer, as he is diabetic and been ill for a few months.
I should phone him, but what do you say.
I think if they have cancer they get you in the operating room quick.
I think with caner its down to how soon its spoted.
I just hope its early stages.
I will post when I hear more.

By the way, when my graddad got throught cancer, he was throwing up blood.
They did not catch it in time.
They did lots of tests with those cameras down the throught. He said its not very comfy.

Did he have lung cancer do you know?
No.
It was throught cancer.
They operated, but it was too late.
He smoked during the second world war, but then gave it up.

My dad gave up about six months ago, hes 59 and has been smoking since he was 14..... allways tobaco, never cigarettes, but according to my neighbour, that makes no difference, though I always thought it did

Do you have a history of cancer in the family?

Yes, my grandad died of cancer, though he was an alcaholic and had many complications. It was a different generation back then.

What I will do is post news about my uncle, it may be some help.
The good thing is that he has got checked out early. I think my gradad did not, and left it too long.
I think the worse thing is to worry about it. As i say, he has been early. Often people do leave it too long.
I am not sure if you do throw up blood with lung caner, as its polocs on the lungs.
I think if it was caner they would have said.

Coughing up blood means it is probably not lung cancer and certainly not pneumonia - But for sure it may well be another form of cancer.
Pneumonia is a film of bacteria covering the lungs and x-rays often confuse cancer with pneumonia - Coughing blood is not uausual to either.
However, some throat/trachea colds (which don't often feel like colds) often give out a lot of blood in coughs. I hope your dad has this, or something equally as enoquious.
I hope his tests proove to be in his favour and he goes on to enjoy many more years of booze and shagging.

johny,
http://www.shands.org/health/information/article/003073.htm
could be a severe bout of bronchitis, any signification inflammation of the bronchial tubes will engender hemoptysis, perhaps pneumonia - but the former seems more likely.
lung cancer? if caught early they will excise the cancerous lung or part of it, if it's metastasized, there may be a problem - secondary tumours etc. they will look for shadowing on the lungs and take things from there.
good luck, empower yourself and your family with medical facts - the worst thing about ill-health in loved ones is not knowing what's going on.
It could also have something to with him giving up smoking. When I gave up I suffered with realy bad mouth ulcers, I know it's not the same but maybe he's body is reacting differently. I know people who have spent weeks of coughing up shit, not litterally, and some who have had really bad throat infections after giving up.
There is no point worrying until there is something to worry about, hope all is fine
