But if I bottle out of spending 3 grand on a telly I'm probably gonna get this (http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=12759&GroupID=36) instead.

If your'e going to spend £1,700 on a TV then get a plasma, I was going to get a rear projection but I have heard nothing but bad things about them.
That 70 inch is a brute, I hope your living room ain't 12x12 feet :takethat:
get a plasma i didn't realise 70" was so cheap now maybe time for an upgrade
don't fuck about man get this http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/16/samsungs-102-inch-plasma-tv/
We have bought several "big screen" hi-def TVs this year and the best by a million miles is the brand new 50 inch Panasonic (just in the shops now) and its head and shoulders better than anything else I have ever seen. Cheaper than the model it replaced too by almost £1000.
Whatever you do don't buy a rear projection anything as they are all pretty much 2 years out of date now and a million miles behind the latest technology.

My mate rates the panasonic ones too - hes got a 42 inch one, but hes tempted to get the 50 and sell the 42 to us hehe. We're still using a 25 inch shitty huge ass TV. It sucks but to be fair its lasted. Gonna need to replace it before series 5 of 24 comes out on DVD :)

These are the new breed of DLP rear projection sets, not as crap as the old style ones. I went into Currys today to compare DLP vs plasma, and the plasmas are brighter, but for the size I'm after they are way out of my budget. What bad stuff have you heard?
I have a large living room, don't worry :p

Plus, DLP HD TV's give higher resolution than similarly priced plasmas. Most 42" plasmas in the £1700 bracket tend to be 1024x768, while the DLPs (eg, the Sagem 56") are 1280x720.
If you want *true* HD resolution - 1920x1080 - they're about double the price and upward. SGS proabaly has one in his downstairs loo ;)
