I want to buy a small, light laptop and since I'm a rubbish shopper I'd welcome your recommendations. It needs to be small enough to slip into my bag without adding much weight or using much space - a travel machine.

Doesn't need to be super-powerful but it should have:

- Long battery life
- Wi-fi built in
- Ethernet
- Port for external monitor
- A couple of USB 2.0 ports

Thanks

Highly recommended.....

People say Sony are good. As a portable laptop they could be best. They have one of the best screens.

If its for web use only, you may consider a nice small apple mac.

Or you could opt for a pda phone with wifi. These are great for email, but make sure it also does blackberry.

You tend to find laptops with screens smaller than 15 inch tend to cost more.

- Long battery life (often you can upgrade. But you can get external ones)
- Wi-fi built in (Most will have, but a wifi card are only £10).
- Ethernet (most will have now)
- Port for external monitor (you may need a port replicator. Older laptops will have one. but newer ones tend not to).
- A couple of USB 2.0 ports (All new ones will have. Macs have loads).

My advise is to also buy a seperate keyboard. (1) Often easer to type on, and (b) saves where and tear.

Powefull laptops will use more power. Plus they will get hotter. Often laptops are made now for office use, rather than being portable.

One thing you may want to think about is watching DVD's on it too.

Sony all the way or Apple if you want to go down that route. :) The only prob i found with apple is that a lot of the software i use doesnt run on it, so I still need the PC.
