I think I will get a new pc.
My old one is starting to show its age. Its still ok (about 4 years old), but its starting to slow down.
Its cheaper to buy a new one rather update.
So what is a decent make to buy these days.
As Geezer did not know you could add a USB hub (he he he), I do not think his pc info will be any use.
I think Dell may be a good option, but ido not like that you see a nice pc cheap, but then once you have added all the upgrades and stuff, it ends up costing a lot more.
My 2cents. It all depends on what your daily webmastering requirments are. I mean there's no point getting a high end machine for video chopping/editing if you never do those things and so on.
I would either get one from the chinese guy running the local computer store or buy the parts and build it myself, rather then getting a pre-made one from Dell or whoever.
In saying that though for pre-built systems I do hear Dell is the way to go.

Yeah i agree being someone who is the proverbial chinese dude down the road lol ( i build custom pc's) id go for build it yourself anyday id never ever ever ever (did i say that enough times) buy from dell or any other bulk manufacturer
but if your not savvy in hardware then yes Dell have some good deals just beware of the 100's for shipping wait till they do a free shipping deal and dont go for the credit options theyll sting you in the ass...
Hope that helps DV :)
i personally think dell is NOT the way to go, they use their own internal designs so i you decide to replace the motherboard or even the case, you are fcuked. i'd go for building your own machine
I'm more than happy with my machine from Mesh. Read some reviews in the PC mags and you're bound to see something suitable.

Why don't you just get a 32MB Ram expansion pack for the Spectrum? It should go a lot faster then!

I've heard a lot of bad things about both Time & Mesh, som to do with delivery, some to do with what actually arrives.
.
dell are utter gash. the cheapest, shittiest components.
build it yourself, to your own spec. that way you get what you want. and it's a piece of piss. i've built three and i am not technical
i would even build it for you to avoid you getting a bastard dell

technically she was absolutely right. a personal computer is either a mac or a ibm close (if you leave out the beardyweirdy linux types) (amd we probably should)

yeah, but she was condescending my box  anyway, she had to leave italy to sleep on a friends floor in another country cos she couldn't make any money working from home on her ... mac ... silly bitch ...

I've succesfully built PCs but I would not recommend it unless someone really wants to build one for the fun of it and they really know what they're doing. The disadvantages of home build are 1. no warranty 2. It's usually more expensive 3. It takes longer. There are some advantages of course like you get exactly what you want, it's interesting and fun if you enjoy mucking about in a geeky kind of way :-) like I do! As for Make - yes, DELL. My computer's a Dell and it works fine. One question though. Is it worth buying a new PC before MS Vista comes along? If I could, I'd wait 'til this time next year.

Or of course buy a Mac, and use all the features in Vista now. Or indeed 3 years ago.
And with bootcamp you can even run windows - if you really have to.
The intel iBook is rumoured to be released on Tuesday.

somehow damian, I knew you were a machman
I am bisexual. I have Macs and PCs.
On my 3rd Dell here....... great value for money and great build quality... Disagree about comments about Dell components.... seems to me they use top notch components...
Had a fijitsu Siemens before and it was crap in comparison......
