There are very few of us in the biz in the UK unlike the US. Before this I was in the shmutter biz.

In fact here in Fulham/Chelsea kosher food is non existant.. I told Kelly earlier on MSN, she's lucky that the part of London she lives in has a large Jewish community, and she'll find kosher deli's, restaurants and stores everywhere. I have one Waitrose that has a cold shelf and sells real beigals and cholla and that's it...

Cos of this I've perfected my own chopped liver and bolied or fried gefilte fish :) So as I have a freezer with stuff in it, tonight I'll have a kosher fry up... vienna's, worst, chips and beans... LOL.

One of my uncles was an accountant which of course my family wanted me to be.. What else. His office was on the corner of Stamford Hill at the lights above the newsagents, opposite what is now Sainsbury's but was a cinema in those olden days. Was in stamford hill from 1970-83, remember the cinema on the corner well (infact when they were demolishing it me and some friends broke in and nicked a few bits and pieces!). The newsagents on the corner was owned by two brothers I think? Do you remember the restaurant on that Parade, Monteginos was the name if I remember right, highlight of the month was a meal there!

Was only at JFS from 81-83 before we moved away to Southgate and I changed schools.....

Gawd, all this has got me daydreaming of my innocent youth :)

I remember the C & A restaurant almost opposite the bowling alley and that's about it.. And of course there used to be a Wimpy going towards Stoke Newington on the left.. And you've got me to remember a pal of mine ran a sauna above the Wimpy or near to it in the mid 70's.... That was a piss hole and the girls weren't that good either... LOL.

And for famous people in the area... The guy who composed "Match of the day" is a Hillite .. Barry Stoller or Rhet Stoller as he was known in the late 50's - early 60's :)

The way I understand it is this -

Prawns, Kidneys, (I thought livers too) split hoofed animals like pigs are no go areas.

Basically the the bottom feaders of the oceans, the parts of an animal used to filter their own food and the scanvengers on land are no gos for jews.

It was an interesting subject was talking to Josh & Brian about it while at AWM.

This is why kosher meat is twice as expensive and non :(
