Lib Dems tempt kids with sweets

Liberal Democrat politicians are planning to use sweets to tempt young children to hand out election leaflets.

Guidelines sent to party officials says "council estate children" can be bribed with toffees to deliver leaflets for next month's local elections.

The party, led by the newly-elected Sir Menzies Campbell, insisted it was an innocent way of using young supporters.

The Guide To Fighting and Winning Local Elections says: "Some of the most reliable and useful Liberal Democrat deliverers are children.

"You go into the middle of a council estate with your leaflets and you shout at all the local kids you can see and hear, 'Any of you lot want to help deliver all these leaflets?'.

"Then proceed Pied Piper-like round the estate doling out badges and toffees and leaflets, the last at least to be pushed through doors by the shouting, squealing and quarrelsome horde."

Labour MP and former social worker Dan Norris said: "This is disgraceful exploitation of children."

But Liberal Democrat chief executive Chris Rennard, insisted: "All political parties find that young people are often willing deliverers of party literature."

Much like when I worked for Labour in the mid-90s then and half the people delivering the party's leaflets were children.

I think its a grand idea, its not work but the kids will learn about the basic work ethics 'effort = reward'

sounds like exploitation to me. they know they can't get away with it in a middle class area, where the parents would do them for kiddy fidlin'.

Kids these days want cocaine. Fuel up a few 14 year olds ont he finest columbian and they will deliver thousands of leaflets much faster than a load of fat fuckers delivering leaflets while chewing toffees!

Ming gives me the creaps. I've wierd images in my head of him cackling to himself why entising kiddies with sweets.

I would like to point out, from the last 10 odd political news articles I've read, none of them had anything to do with running the country.

The Lib Dems never have anything to do with running the country.

I know, I was thinking that the kids in my estate would probably slash them if they only offered candy.

I just keep thinking about Ming the Merciless. I like some of what the Lib Dems say but I am very aware that they can say it because they have little chance of ever being in gov't again.

Anyway, he is just holding the fort until Lembit Öpik is established enough to take the job.

Unfortunatly due to the Lib Dems seemable current lack of direction I'm probably going to voting torry in the next general election. .. but alas living in wales I'll be throwing my vote away.

I like what Lembit Öpik has to say for himself. I really think that Ming was a massive step backwards for the Lib Dems as it's obvious that the next general election is going to be an X-Factor style popularity contest.

If I had to have a crush on a politician it might be Lembit...he is a bit square and likes weather girls but the most charasmatic member the libdems have.

If I voted Torry my husband would find a way to come back and punish me.
