Why is it you are now a social leper for overtaking
i have noticed that if you overtake someone now they shake a fist or do the wanker sign even though they may be doing 40MPH in a 60 limit .The other worrying trend is to stop you getting back in when overtaking a line of traffic as has happened in a number of road deaths.
I do not drive dangerously and have never had an accident in 29 years of driving (touching wood) and consider myself an above average driver having had a brief early career in racing from Mini's to formula 3.
so what is the problem?
My answer is a slow decline in the respect of others. People today just dont want you to get past and the thought that you might, consumes them.
How often do you come up to a car on the motorway when you have been travelling at a steady speed only for the car to speed up when you try and pass...its happens all the time..
The other night i was travelling in our Mini Cooper S at 120MPH on a quiet four lane stretch of A1 Nr Peterborough a Porsche Cayman came at me from behind, i pulled over as he was travelling faster than me he saw i was rapidly approaching a truck and slowed, flashed to let me back out.
We had a little race up the A1 for 10-15 miles ..great fun and the best thing was we both enjoyed seeing someone else drive fast (and more importantly safely) we didnt care who got to the next roundabout first...
that doesnt happen much in this age of little respect and too much jealousy
99% of drivers now only care that YOU dont get somewhere before them
