What band has been the best?

Many say the Beatles have been the best, but for me they are not as they have sold out. To me everything they stood for was a lie. I mean Sir Paul McCartney who lives in an estate and will not let people near his land - that's not the socialist stuff he banged on about in the Beatles.

Also some of the Beatles songs sound nice, but you never hear them on the radio. In fact they sound old.

While Queen still sounds fresh now.

The Beach Boys still sound cool. In fact I suspect that The Beach Boys changed the modern music. They took an original sound which was popular (and very conservative) at the time and made it sound so cool. Even sounds good now. They even experimented with sound. I suspect that disco and house music was influced by them.

I still think ABBA was amazing. Just loved all the songs.

Sex Pistols, may not have been musically as good as others. But they were not just music. They were almost art in themselves. There have been many punk groups, but they were all about music. To me the sex pistols were more like living art.

I'm so glad you said that :):)

I LOVE the pistols and play Never Mind The Bollocks alllll the time...like you say it's not the best "musically" but that was never the point. I just love the rawness of it......it defined its time. A true benchmark imho

That asides I would have to say the Rolling Stones has been the best band, (my opinion of course lol) for the sheer amount of fucking amazing music they have made, that holds its own with anything that is being written these days.

More recently I'd say the beastie boys...for their ability to change musical styles over the years like chameleons and do it all so well...Pauls Boutique is a masterpiece :)

I love Queen..100% fanfuckentastic. I listen to them loud every day.
I just got a cd that has every single no1 record from 1954 - 2004....now that has some treausre on it and if you listen from year to year you get a great feel of how music changed.

how music changed.

i finally have proof that this is true and is not down to me being a sentimental git!

our pay TV got a new music channel added, with dedicated 70s and 80s shows. i hear songs i haven't been aware of before, and they fucking kick arse compared to today's top 10.

I think there are lots of good stuff being made today.

I think Blur is very good, and many others.

To be honest I cannot name them, but there seems to be a lot of good stuff going.

I think that the created bands seems to becoming to an end.

U2 have been good, your right.

Their seems to be lots of very good American groups at the moment.

I think one thing that's a shame is that its the record industry that determines what you listen to.

A bit back I used to listen on satellite to MTV2. It just played music from Europe. It was amazing some of the songs (some very rude), and I could not find any UK shops that would sell anything from Europe.

And lets not forget Led Zep.

Those are my fave British bands of all time.

very true...they have also made a lot of timeless music

If you ever get a chance read their book "Hammer of the Gods", about their touring days back in the 60s...

some right rock and roll stories in there lol

For me, Carter USM, they were only around a short time so they were obviously not the best of all time, but I still listen to their music which was full of excellent plays on words and loads of full of youthfull disillusionment / anger, etc, etc

I also like good ole Blobbly Williams.... :mcdonalds

and best band of all time, Pink Floyd.
