Blogs and tarting them up

Does tarting blogs up help or hinder sales from them?

If seen some nice blogs Grisy and Rosie have really nice looking blogs, but so far Ive left mine so they look like a blog.

Personally, I think it helps, but maybe that's just the market I'm aiming at, which is glamour. I think if it's a personal blog, like a journal, it has it's own appeal to readers and maybe that's what it should stay as in terms of looks, on the whole. I think everybody hates slpogs and just passes over them, as they look shoddy and crap. Something that looks as if it's from a genuine person who has put in the effort to update regular will make readers return, whether you tart them up or not. That's how I see it.
