What an amazing world we live in .....
we are happy to go to war over a cartoon that insults a section of our society because of thier religion that actually doesnt say that images of its icon are offensive ,,,its just the extremists that do..
And 1000+ people are killed on a ferry in the Red Sea When that same ferry was seen as unfit to carry Europeans in European waters as it was the sister ship of the Herald Of Free Enterprise....remember Zeebrugge disaster??
So when they got told the ship was unfit, what did they do??? scrap it??
NO they sent it to the third world and put it to service there........ but they won't be as upset about that as they are a cartoon......Fucked up world

Yup!
Our ( the West's ) fault again !!

actually those and a load of other ferries did no longer comply with new EU rules on safety, so those where the owners saw no point in updating them were sold off, mostly ending up in Asia and Africa. i fail to see why the responsibility for the security laws there would be with the previous owners? surely the ferries wouldn't be used in their new places, if they were illegal there?

So because we say they arent safe for us to use we pan them off to thirld world countries and say they are safe for them to use. Its like saying we dont want to use it cause it isnt good enough for us but give i to the poor people cause they dont need safe things...Again no one complains but a cartoon that some people would find offensive gets a big uproar over it...

Oh Ive heard of it yup. But if we as people cant look out for others then we are doomed before we know it. I mean if you didnt find something safe would you give it to a mate to use so that he could fuck up with it? I wouldnt think so Albeit thrid world countries arent "mates" but its the same point. We would let them pay money to hurt themselves because we are greedy bastards..

So they buy an unsafe ferry, it's not the previous owners responsibility to make sure it's safe.
If you buy a car with no MOT then it's YOU who will have to get it done NOT the previous owner. If I sold you a car with no brakes it's not my fault if you drive it without getting them done, and I wouldn't be chasing you up to make sure you had got them done.
Oh Ive heard of it yup. But if we as people cant look out for others then we are doomed before we know it.
next thing you will be asking for disabled parking spots near entrances.

Back to my car scenario, if my mate wanted to buy my car and I told him it has no brakes, would it then be up to me to make sure he gets them done?
What if he says he doesn't inted driving it he just wants to use it to sit in and have a smoke in peace. He then decides he WILL drive it without brakes, would that be my fault?
So what if I had a ship and you wanted to buy it, I tell you it would sink if used. You say you only want to use it as a restaurant and NOT "sail" it. Would I then have to keep checking with you to make sure you ain't "sailing" it?

Thats very true but we are selling them for them to sail it and we know that they are going to ail it...I see where you are coming from but just my opinion I think its a litle on the wrong side...
Third world countries by western equipment all the time, just like we but Japanese cars when they are three years old. What we can afford and what our standards are is higher because we have more money.
They bought that boat knowing full well why it was sold. They bought it because it was cheap. I cant see how its in any way the wests fault that they want to buy our old shit and use it.
What amazes me is not that they bought it and used it, but the fact that there own saftey measures were so poor. Especially knowing the history of that particular boat.
But this isnt anything, you want to see the planes that African airlines fly around in. Scare you to death

you should be writing to your MP. afterall the UK condones unsafe cars in the Commonwealth. neither India's Ambassador, which is based on some 1950s car, nor all the wrecks sold to African nations are safe really, compared to the standards we have in Europe. how can you tolerate that and still sleep at night?
we get the same thing here as well, remember the red food colouring that was banned in america because it was meant to cause cancer (or somthing!) it was legal to sell it here,
boats - food colouring, whats the difference!!!

try swallow a boat.

In business they are not *mates* but customers. If they were our mates we wouldn't be worried about them sending us bird flu.
For years we have been sending money to 3rd world countries and they have built the biggest palaces, armies and collections of single malt possible with it. About time that we put things right here at home first.
walk like an egyptiaaaaaan...guess that doesn't include floating :(

Cars are NOT public transport. Its easy to say nobody forced them to buy an old ferry.. but what choice did they have..A nice shiny new one??
I am sure its comforting for the families of the 1000 or so killed that we just think "fuck-em they had a choice when they bought it"
How were the company allowed to sell a ferry with an inherent design fault. that if you forget to secure the door it sinks and kills hundreds.....
Would a car be allowed to be sold that if you didnt shut the door the driver falls out when its windy at 60MPH

In Egypt probably yes

the usual choice everyone with little money has, less comfort. like travelling with regular ships and public transport on land rather than having the own car with them.
shock and horror, live with less luxury, eh?

your point being? what's the difference to any other accident with hundreds of victims?
How were the company allowed to sell a ferry with an inherent design fault.
find the law that forbids it, take them to court.
Would a car be allowed to be sold that if you didnt shut the door the driver falls out when its windy at 60MPH
point out the regulations that forbid it then.
In Egypt probably yes
it's allowed everywhere. why wouldn't one be allowed to sell a defunct machine?
the new owner has to make sure the machine is within the legal limits if he wants to actually use it.

xcite-tv did, and you seemed to narrow it being allowed down to places like Egypt only.
if neither of you two meant what you posted, word it properly. :onguard:

I didnt narrow it down to anywhere. The subject was Egypt. XCite asked about the car. I replied in Egypt yes, as thats what the subject was about.
Read it properly.

the car selling question was not about Egypt alone at all.

Swallow yes lol, swallow boats no...

I just think it is pretty sad that you dont care people let other people kill themselves when it could be prevented. Its like knowing that the guy down the road is going to use a car that will inevitably kill him and you just stand there watching thinking to yourself he has a choice. Yes he knows that it isnt in the best condition but he cant use anyothing else as he cant afford it but your philosophy is oh well live without the car and travel 60 miles by foot to see his dying mother rather than get in the car...

it was my assumption none of the buyers of the ferry was on board, do you have different information?
Its like knowing that the guy down the road is going to use a car that will inevitably kill him and you just stand there watching thinking to yourself he has a choice.
mankind developed the art of reading many moons ago. information on 1. the not overwhelmingly high quality of the ferries and 2. the ferries no longer complying with EU rules was freely available, spread through mass media around the globe.
and 3. the ferries obviously did and do comply with the regulations there. so your whole point is mute. if at all you'd have to turn your anger on the authorities there for allowing the ferry to be used.
i understand it's easier to bitch at me rather than getting your arse in gears and do something that might actually change something, so feel free to continue and amuse me some more.

someone who can afford a car and the ferry trip surely can afford a ship trip and public transport. the fact you have issues digesting this fact is your problem, not mine.
i'm also pretty sure that there weren't 1200 dying mothers waiting for their only child to walk 60 miles. if so, the world should turn its eye on the environmental situation within that 60 mile perimeter, there might be something with a major impact on elderly women's health.
and we should all invest in a donkey rental service there for the walking people. the ROI should be awesome.

Egypt 3rd world, I don't think so. Besides when they got the boat they added more decks which experts claim made the boat top heavy.
What was very supprising was the fact the UK's offer of help was refused.......

Actually, that was a design feature on the Trabant. The doors frequently flew open when it was cornering.
"East German air conditioning" was how one of my mates referred to it.
