The walk back from the pub, + 2 pints of Fosters got me thinking about the new 2257 coming into force for US webmasters in a week or so.

I know there are a lot of threads about this pretty much everywhere, but....

as UK webmasters, the US 2257 code does not affect us directly, correct? And as a further element, wouldn't the new US 2257 conflict with the Data Protection Act? (A Law which does affect us directly?) and whilst we need to ensure US affiliates are protected by making sure we conform to the new 2257, aren't we putting ourselves in the shit house with UK law and the DP act?

This has probably been discussed over and over on here so forgive me if I'm going over old ground.

cheers

Maybe Im not looking in the right place, but could someone please tell me exactly what the wording is that I need to have on my site for the 2257?

Am I also right that the address used cannot be a PO Box?

"If" you want to comply with the US law, no a PO box isnt allowed. I'd suggest waiting a little while longer till you see the big US customers, with the expensive lawyers put on there enterence pages and copying

Personally I think you should use the same, or similar wording, to Harlot Cash's 2257 statement

The exact wording of the link has to be:

18 U.S.C. 2257 record-keeping requirements compliance statement.

This link can open in a new window. Also, the link must be at least a 12-point font, or no smaller than the second largest font on your site.

And yes, a post office box is technically illegal.
