makes conversions look great as well
The program gets a customer, who is willing to pay for porn, a credit card, their email address.
The affiliate gets good conversions and so the sponsor can say look how great we can convert.

Either I'm very dyslexic, or someone keeps changing the text in my threads. Funny.

I haven't changed anything. And JT is down the pub.
Maybe we've been hackzored. :)

Anyway, back to the topic... site owners don't have $1 trials just to make conversions look good surely, when only the amount of $$$ matters?
I thought it had something to do with raping the CC, as rebills can't be charged back? Or, spamming the hell out of the sign up. But that's not instant money right?
And isn't cross selling on the join page illegal now? Or is that pre-ticked cross sells? Or do you mean cross selling from within the site?

It started when customers began to read the price on the sign-up page. So instead of saying:
Only $29.95 a month!
They started saying:
Only $1!*
Recurring at $29.95 a month after 3 days
Standard, sleazy marketing trick.

Sure, but customers are able to put a stop to the recurring by cancelling it on their CC. Do $1 trials convert significantly higher? Why isn't everyone else doing it?

The conversion matters to affiliates. And if you are trying to get new affs and your ratio is good, well, you do the math, girlfriend .

No kinds of cross sale are illegal. You clearly don'y buy much online. Prechecked flight insurance with flights, prechecked toner refills with printers etc etc. It is part of life now, and as long as it is CLEARLY LABLED there is nothing wrong with it imho.

Perhaps they don't want the multi million dollar fines for chargebacks?

Yep, for credit card CB thresholds.

No, the problem is usually being unable to cancel.
Actually I remember back in 2001 a friend had a Femdom site (pretty well known back then) doing doing £20k + a day recurring with no cancel button and no customer support link. Nothing much has changed.

Do visa regulations state you need a cancel and help link?

On the subject of chargebacks - has anyone ever actually done one? I looked into it around Xmas time when I ordered a guitar online that arrived broken & I was refused a replacement or refund because I'd left it too long to tell them about it - reason being I didn't want to open someone else's Xmas present & the packaging looked undamaged so it got stowed away for a few weeks.
In the end I persuaded the vendor to claim on their couriers insurance & send me a new guitar, but the research I did into the Visa chargeback process indicated it can be quite difficult, with bank staff commonly not knowing how it works, & can take weeks. Maybe it's easier in other countries?
Doing a CB is much easier in America compared to Australia for example. I did one 2 years ago on a fraudulent charge to my visa card. Took me 3 weeks, several bank departments, numerous signed pieces of paper as well as phone calls.
